I have already dealt with ww2 and had the red face preaching the same shit you are to a Jewish History professor only to find out how wrong I was.

I am not the one who is not dealing here Julia.  Your claim that I am is called transference.

Bill's in the mail ;)

slvemike4u -> RE: Texas Board of ED bans Thomas Jefferson from text books (3/13/2010 4:35:12 PM)

Little old me.....please explain in 500 words or less why I would be the reason anyone chooses to home school their children.
This just might be interesting.

I was listening to talk radio here in Baltimore (local programming), and a veteran school commission stated that "elected school boards are the worst." (Too political)

Looks like in the case of TX, his theory is borne out.

I enjoy historical accuracy.

The word holocaust meant and still means a whole burnt offering and that offering had to be a healthy animal usually or human whatever and wholly burnt.

Unless you are prepared to claim that hitler sacrificed whoever to G-d as part of the sacred ritual then I stand down.

Otherwise that word was a result of propaganda that even the orthodox rabbis deny as being accurate wherein they claim it is a shoa meaning catastrophe and they are unhappy because using the word holocaust in reference to ww2 denigrates the holocaust ritual.

So the moral of that story is that I agree with the rabbis and you by use of the word inappropriately denigrate the ritual.

You deny the rounding up of millions of human beings that were systematically destroyed, first in the countryside and then in the camps...

Now you can go on trying to say it is the name that you deny, but I bet you deny that there was genocide that took place at all...

I believe he also claims they had a swimming pool and tennis courts at Auschwitz. Where do you even start with someone who believes that?

Fast reply - why do people want to live in the Dark Ages, and why do they want to inflict the Dark Ages upon everyone's progeny? These people are fucking insane. That sucks monstrous Texan ass *sigh*. Did you know that Houston was one of the fattest city in the nation?

Thank you for pointing that out to me.

The disestablishment clause has been so badly mistaught for so long that people have trouble believing Jefferson taxed the citizens of Va to support the State Church.

Actually Jefferson managed to get the practice outlawed and was so proud of that accomplishment that he had it placed on his tombstone as one of his top three accomplishments in life.

One of the things I always found the most admirable about Jefferson is the fact that his headstone doesn't say a word about the fact that he was president of the United States. Author of the Declaration, founder of a university, and champion of religious freedom. Those were the 3 things that mattered most to him. I've always felt that was quite remarkable.

Maybe if she taught the teen age boys about The Enlightenment she could break generations of willful ignorance in the Lone Star State

My children, for the moment anyway, attend Texas public schools. I'm not naive enough to believe that they are going to learn all (or even a good part) of what I think is important. That's where parental responsibility comes in. The homeschoolers teach their kids whatever crap they want them to know. I'm sure as hell going to add on whatever I think is important, i.e.; critical thinking skills, questioning the status quo, etc. It's just too bad that it has to be that way. School has always been about indoctrination.

Julia, I had forgotten about her, ugh.

Hey, lots of wonderful Texans, past and present, Ann Richards, Lance Armstrong, Janis Joplin, Willie Nelson, me.... [:D]
