I was listening to talk radio here in Baltimore (local programming), and a veteran school commission stated that "elected school boards are the worst." (Too political) Looks like in the case of TX, his theory is borne out.

My children, for the moment anyway, attend Texas public schools. I'm not naive enough to believe that they are going to learn all (or even a good part) of what I think is important. That's where parental responsibility comes in. The homeschoolers teach their kids whatever crap they want them to know. I'm sure as hell going to add on whatever I think is important, i.e.; critical thinking skills, questioning the status quo, etc. It's just too bad that it has to be that way. School has always been about indoctrination.
