depends on your opinion of the boundaries of the definition of genocide.  I mean we may as well suck it up that the US has wasted well over 2 million in the war on terror to take over the oil fields.

What is that?

A red herring.

While Janis Joplin was a hell of a blues singer and all that....do you really want to hold her up as a shining example of what Texas produces?.A sad and painful life fueled by self loathing and ending in an early death?.A shooting star to be sure....but isn't there something to be said for having the wherewithal to actually live ones life.....rather than squandiring all that talent you have been blessed with by a squalid and early alcohol/drug induced death?
Nah,Janis was a hell of a talent....but a monumental failure as far as surviving what ever crosses her early years placed upon her shoulders.

My point was that the practice was completely Constitutional.

I think that's exactly right.
And I think that the pendulum is swinging back to the right, and that it has along way to go.

You really need to take a history class: and not in Texas

The Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom Thomas Jefferson In Virginia, the American Revolution led to the disestablishment of the Anglican Church, which had been tied closely to the royal government. Then the question arose as to whether the new state should continue to impose taxes to be used for the support of all recognized churches. The proposal had a number of supporters who, even if they no longer accepted an established church, still believed that religion should be supported by the public purse. For some Virginians, however, imposing religion on people smacked of tyranny. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, argued that religious beliefs should be solely matters of individual conscience and completely immune from any interference by the state. Moreover, religious activity of any sort should be wholly voluntary. Not only did they oppose taxing people to support an established church, but they also objected to forcing people to pay taxes even for their own church. To Jefferson, a high wall of separation should always keep church and state apart. Jefferson drafted the following measure, and Madison skillfully secured its adoption by the Virginia legislature in 1786. It is still part of modern Virginia's constitution, and it has not only been copied by other states but was also the basis for the Religion Clauses in the Constitution's Bill of Rights. Both men considered this bill one of the great achievements of their lives, and Jefferson directed that on his tombstone he should not be remembered as president of the United States or for any of the other high offices he held, but as the author of the Declaration of Independence and the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, and as the founder of the University of Virginia

(Writing slowly, softly and gently, and using small words where possible, as though to a child)

Yes, housesub4you, Virginia wrote a new law. They changed their state law. They did not challenge the constitutionality (sorry; see above) of the old state law, which taxed their citizens in public support of religion.

It's not. What you seem to be missing is that the Va church tax existed and was abolished before the Constitution was written.

Hmm...

So people don't like what the Texas school board is teaching.

I'd recomend home schooling but a lot of people around here seem to be against that so I guess they'll just have to suck it up and take it.

It's for the good of society.

I'm very grateful to the NEA for making me send my children to private schools.

Would you care to enlighten us as to the assumption(s) you're making regarding the private schools involved?

My assumptions are based upon your historical and political illiteracy that you have demonstrated on this thread. If the school you selected mirrors these half truths and inaccuracies that you have posted about here, they will just produce the next generation of young people that have been indoctrinated with lies.

I am thinking since you brought it up in this context that they teach to your beliefs..

Now do not get me wrong, I am for you to have the freedom to teach your kids whatever you like...

Nah,Janis was a hell of a talent....but a monumental failure as far as surviving what ever crosses her early years placed upon her shoulders.

The Winters brothers, Billy Gibbons and Albert Collins are far better adverts, when you put it like that.

Better, or luckier they didn't keel over? [:D]

I stand by using Joplin as an example; she was incredibly talented, and contributed much in her short life.

Point is, Texas is full of good, decent, intelligent people. Gifted ones, brave ones, and we hold no monopoly on morons.

It's just our moron's time in the spotlight, I suppose.

Everything is bigger in Texas, so it stands to reason your morons would be giant huge morons of epic proportion

It's very unfair that Texas has been saddlled with at least one moron who wasn't from down there in the first place, true enough.
