The stupid rants may get the most replies but the well thought out posts, such as this one of yours that I am responding to, get the most respect. Don't assume that a lack of replies means that the more intelligent posts receive no attention or respect, that very respect discourages trolls and there is often very little to respond to because they say what needs to be said.

There are intelligent, well-informed people on these forums. I notice a number of them have been posting less and less frequently and some have outright given up. I also notice that some of the most informative and detailed posts receive the least attention while a rant about some stupidity will spark a massive chain of replies.

What is that telling you?

I would rather enjoy a good. debate than to belittle another person who I disagree with but, find common ground in other areas. Well reasoned arguments are how I ended up here and when I do comment I try to do so in that manner although as of late they seem to be so few and far between.

I think my last few posts have been short and simple disbelieving snide remarks, posted out of frustration by some of the convoluded nature of the threads and wish for better points to be made and better arguments done with repsect as opposed to sniping at one another and posts referenced to either off based blogs or science fiction based conspiracy theories.
Bring on the elections, let's really talk of politics again!

It tells me that more people are guided by emotion than they're guided by logic.

I don't know what the solution is. Self moderation and consciously striving towards deescalation at all times I suppose. Again, I never claimed to be pure, that was never the premise of the thread, the idea was that we could go on discussing what had become forbidden in the "protected thread" and whatever else came of the thread. That, and I thought that the topic might be a good discussion.

Come on Moon, that's not necessary.

I have no doubt whatsoever, that Hunkie means well. I certainly don't wish for him to leave us. I also think it's hugely unfair and emotionally immature for anyone to throw "Take your meds" in his face, just because they don't agree with his point-of-view.

Yes, my guess is that there have been many cases of both.

We all need to start looking for more common ground, instead of focusing on how we're different. The biggest obstacle to seeking common ground is that people tend to gravitate more towards emotional threads as opposed to logical threads. The tendency for point-scoring and ego stroking then increases.

In terms of conspiracy theories, I'm sure most of us would at least agree that there has been a long-running conspiracy by those at the top of the food chain, to keep the basic economic structure in place. Maybe we could start to build common ground off there.

In my opinion, the higher road is to leave both the mistake and the correction there.
