Health care past the house, the only problems are no public option and mandated private insurance

WantingToServe11 -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 7:51:12 PM)

To my knowledge there is mandated private insurance however the fight isn't over yet. There will be over 30 states that will be challenging this health care bill; also, people will bring up law suites to challenge this bill as not being constitutional.

slvemike4u -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 7:52:34 PM)

A first step and as first steps go...its a good one.

Elisabella -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 7:53:37 PM)

Is anyone else a bit squicked that such a monumentally important bill passed by such a small margin, and with a significant number of Dems opposing?

I say this as someone who is 100% for public healthcare (not with this bill, specifically, but in general) and I think something like this really needs to be a fully bipartisan effort.

Yes.  For all the claims that most Americans want this, I find it strange that our representatives can only manage barely more than 50%.

slvemike4u -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 7:57:10 PM)

34 dems opposed....not one repub crosed party lines.Yeah that makes me sick...thats at least 34 Democratic congresspersons lacking a spine....Political cowardice.

Heh I'd say the opposite, I'd say it's the Repubs lacking a spine. It's a lot easier to tow party line than to vote against it.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 7:58:17 PM)

It would have been bipartisan if there were any republicans with a shred of honor or integrity. As for the democrats, many - maybe even most - of those who voted against it did so because it wasn't liberal enough, not because they're opposed to the basic principles. They just felt it didn't go far enough, not that it went too far. I can live with that.

Those are the only problems with this legislation?[8|]

Some of you support a public option yet many of you have limited knowledge of economics and the forces that determine the cost of every product and resource supplied. So, why do you guys support a public option and tell me how thats going to fix the "inflation" issue in our system? The answer is a trick question; a public option isn't going to increase the value of our dollar, get rid of our obesity epidemic, limit corporatism, allow capitalism to be capitalism, prevent government intervention in certain areas, and improve our overall foundations of society like culture, education, and economic and social infrastructures. In other words, it not that we don't have a public option as being the problem but corruption, government intervention, and poor management of our currency.

slvemike4u -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 8:02:02 PM)

Panda any Democrat who voted against this....because he thought it didn't go far enough...is a fool.Going any farther would have been the death of this bill.This is all that was possible....the 34 will not have to defend their vote..while handing the Repubs an additional point to hammer their Democratic opponents this Nov.

soflamaster -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 8:02:43 PM)

Im so glad all you liberal like this and I hope you dont have young kids beacause if they are youn and healthy if they dont get the helathcare that was passed they can be fined $3,000 but can also go to jail. the goverment has never run anythng successufly what makes you think they can run run the healt care

This is just a guess but I'd wager it's the more conservative Dems that voted no, not the more liberal ones.

You seem to think this is an economic issue...it most certainly is not...it is in fact a simple question of whether we ,as a great and compassionate country ,can assure all of its citizens access to basic health care.

Mike,

What basic health care am I going to have access to once this bill becomes law?

Even the parts covering pre-existing conditions for adults don't kick in for 4 years, and unfortunately some of those folks (you know the ones that really need the coverage) are not going to be around when they finally can get coverage.

This basicly comes out as a tax bill with some stuff that may or may not be implemented in a few years. Well done. Congress, well done.

If I am wrong, please correct me so I can at least feel a little better about this monstrosity of a bill.

I know it's an economic issue because resources and a lot of it goes in to this system. The reason why these reforms are encouraged is because of the "increase in price of health care." One simple law of economics says "with supply there is demand therefore supply and demand effect cost directly." To say that this isn't an economic issue further proves my initial statement on how many of you lack simple knowledge of economics.

Of course there is a moral issue at play here but you have to consider the economical issues as well. Resources are the foundation of economics and they are greatly limited especially in health care. To say that resources don't play a role in every health care system in a world is a fallacy and an ignorant statement.

slvemike4u -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 8:25:16 PM)

Well I would ask you to explain to me how else this could have been done.There was never and could never be any way to just with a stroke of a pen fundamentally alter something this huge,an entitty that encompasses fully 16% of the American economy could not be altered by political fiat.

WantingToServe11 -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 8:29:15 PM)

Well, so you admit that our health care system is involved with the economy: well done. And yes, our whole economy is altered by political fiat. If you do your research you'll learn that our currency is backed by nothing. Our currency isn't even backed by gold or any other metal. This was due to the stroke of a pen by a president named Nixon. But back to the topic on hand, that bill isn't going to do us any good nor is setting up a public option without the proper economic policies in-placed.

DomKen -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 8:31:38 PM)

YES WE CAN!

Even David Frum gets it.

Maybe, just maybe, this will wake up the old school republicans and we'll see some changes in leadership and some serious attempts at bipartisanship.

slvemike4u -> RE: Health care passes (3/21/2010 8:42:56 PM)

You are an arrogant little shit aren't you? Saying that in my opinion this is not an economic issue.....is not the same thing as saying economics has nothing to do with it.Has the number 16% any meaning to you....I happen to know it is the percentage of our GDP that is spent on health care.Does the number 48 million mean anything to you,that is the number of Americans that most agree are now uninsured....Now try to stay with me here wiiling toserve....we as a country spend more on our health care while leaving a large number of us uncovered that to me makes no sense...either on an economic nor a moral level....No my young friend this is not an economic issue it is a moral issue and it so happens it is the overriding moral issue of our day
