NOONE that is sick in this nation, is unable to get treatment from a healthcare facility..... it is a daily practice, and anyone who says differently is a liar.... we just don't want the stinking 'government' to screw up health care like they screw up everything else they touch... got it?

Actually that's not entirely true. I was working at an animal hospital and was exposed to Leptospirosis - a disease which could potentially kill me. I didn't have insurance at the time, as the place didn't offer it. The doctor told the other employees to see their doctor and get pre-emptive meds, which they all did, as they had husbands with insurance.

I called at least 5 different doctors to try to get care. Here's how the conversations went.

Me : I've been exposed to this disease, and i need to see a doctor.

Them : Who's your insurance company?"

Me : .....I dont have insurance.

Them : Then I'm sorry, we won't see you.

So, I didn't get care. I waited for a couple of weeks, hoping that I would be in the clear  (I was) because I knew the risk was a slim one, and I wouldn't be able to pay off another 700 ER room bill, as I was still paying for an incident the prior summer where i had a scratch on my eyeball.

I've actually had conservatives tell me "Well that's too bad for you, you should have gotten insurance somewhere or found a new job."  They don't understand that most people can't just up and find a new job with benefits but they somehow think that means we're lazy, etc., and deserve to get sick.

We will see increased partisanship on both sides. Every contested Republican House primary will feature at least one candidate running on "Repeal". Most such races will feature two or more candidates seeing who can shout "Repeal" the loudest and most convincingly. Some contested Democrat primaries will feature a candidate running on "Repeal" but few of those will make much headway. Races for the Senate will be similar if less strident.

General races will come down to a Repeal Republican and a Status Quo Democrat, resulting in Republican takeovers of both chambers; and, I hope, a government shutdown if needed to defund/repeal this thing.

Meanwhile, major provisions will be found unconstitutional, giving cover to Democrats who look forward to possibly keeping their jobs in 2012.

The fight has only begun.

Most of these clowns have never heard the phrase "enumerated powers". The few that have chose to misunderstand it.

Wow, I cannot fathom someone getting their car repossesed just because they didn't pay for it, or their house, either.

I mean, what if they lost their job, and couldn't find another one (that was just perfect for them and paid more than the one they lost)????? What if they had a family to feed and couldn't hunt for work because that mean old bank took their car when they were only 8 payments behind? What if they had a family and the bank took their house when they were only two years behind. Oh, boo hoo, boo hoo, boo fucking hoo, and shame on those mean old bankers.

Obviously, everything should be free, and to hell with banks and payments and such.

My best guess is that reconciliation is DOA.
Neither party has any (political) incentive to change anything, as far as I can see.

Excellent point.

Homeowners associations are not socialist (in fact I'd argue that they're capitalist in that they raise prices in order to cater to a buyer with specific tastes) but then again I don't see a problem with socialized democracy.

I do think one of the problems in the US when it comes to socialism is that it's such a big country with so many different cultures. Places like Canada, UK, Australia, Europe, etc all have a common, shared history, there's a sense here at least that whether you're a wealthy Australian or a poor Australian you're still Aussie and so long as you have Aussie values you're all good.

The US on the other hand has distinctive cultural subsets that get turned into "us vs them" all the time. White vs black, northern vs. southern, urban vs. rural, etc. and there's this really strong undercurrent of "we don't want THEM to decide for US" or even "we don't want to have to pay for THEM when WE are doing okay" and I think this problem is always glossed over, people say "that's racism to discuss the differences between urban black culture and rural white culture and why the two might not want anything to do with each other" but it really is a crucial issue if you want to have a united system.

I honestly wonder if it's even possible for this problem to be solved.

Well, I have said at the outset there would be no bill come to law out of healthcare reform (not that this is truely healthcare reform), but .....

I may have to call wrong on myself over this.

It's not very PC to say that hogeneous cultures are easier to govern... but I'm not exactly PC. There was supposedly a time when we were united; then again history glosses over a lot of conflict. We seem not just polarized but hyphenated to a point that it is unseemly for some groups to identify themselves simply as "American".

Me? I'm a "Veteran-American"

You have described the fabric of the States quite well. We have made great advances in the racial issue overtime considering the racial disparity was enshrined in our Constitution by the Founders as compromise; a war was fought over it (under the guise of States' Rights); and Reconstruction was abandoned to win an election. For some, the issue remains quite healthy today as they are confounded by a a Black man in the Presidency.

Our federal rep was on tv saying she didn't think it would stand up in court. You can't force people to buy something they don't want. It's not even a constitutional federal  responsibility to provide healthcare. Therefore, it is left up the states to decide what's best for their citizens.

We also had another state rep who was introducing legislation to let us vote on whether to accept the federal program. He made it quite clear that we didn't have to accept this program. In this state, I can almost assure you that we don't believe in a welfare state. You live within your means and if that means giving up your $50 a month cell phone so you can pay a health insurance premium, then so be it. You can also give up your cable tv, and internet and go to the library for a computer. There's no excuse for most people expecting everything free. One of my favorite bumper stickers is "Actually, No One Owes You Crap."

I expect all states other than the major welfare states like California will be making moves to block this attempt at creating a nanny state.

We have been hyhenated throughout our history. Those who are "simply American" wish to ignore the presence of the hyphenated cultures. Now the "simply American" find themselves increasingly in the minority. They are frightened and gather on the Mall to hurl epithets.

What on earth is this Mayo Clinic everyone refers to??

It is a huge network of clinics, research, and schools for mostly hard to treat health issues.  And it is possible that there were Canadian license plates as doctors from all over the globe come to learn and treat there.

I can't believe someone brought race into this issue. This is insane. I suppose they are still using the same argument they used during the election, that if you don't support this man you have to be a racist. What we oppose is this slide into socialism where everyone thinks they are entitled to all the luxuries of life. Although healthcare is not a luxury, if you are healthy enough to work and have a job, you are not entitled to free health care. Give up your beer, your cigarettes, your internet, your cable tv, your cell phone, and yes, even your late model new car you just purchased if that's what you have to do, but you are not entitled to free anything.

This is the man I support for President.

The States' Rights argument lives on.

Ummm, the issue of Nullification was settled by Andrew Jackson. Look it up.

You might at least learn the proper spelling of the word before you try to apply its definition.
