I could argue that we are here together, and at the same time argue that we are somewhere else together, and yet still argue that we are not together at all.

The thing is, it is very much like the Earth, having both night and day at the same time, yet neither in the same place at the same time. That help a bit?

I missed you when you were gone. You came back and now we are living and exchanging. Proof.

Where else could this happen? We are here together.

Edit: The polarization, if that was a metaphor, is created, not reality. No matter my sunshine, your darkness, (or visa versa, ha), the whole is neither my nor your experience. That is ego. No place for it.

I see a lot of Ego in declaring some sentance fragments "proof". But you do have a point Subtee. Bhuddism is interesting stuff. Many people (seems to make sense to me) think Jesus studied Bhuddism, and my understanding is both the Tibetians and Hindus have stories of the Krishna of the West, and his travells.

I like the Original 4 nobel truths better though

1.Life as we know it ultimately is or leads to suffering/uneasiness (dukkha) in one way or another.
2.Suffering is caused by craving. This is often expressed as a deluded clinging to a certain sense of existence, to selfhood, or to the things or phenomena that we consider the cause of happiness or unhappiness. Craving also has its negative aspect, i.e. one craves that a certain state of affairs not exist.
3.Suffering ends when craving ends. This is achieved by eliminating delusion, thereby reaching a liberated state of Enlightenment (bodhi);
4.Reaching this liberated state is achieved by following the path laid out by the Buddha.

Tee, thank you for creating this thread. I couldn't watch the PBS programme because Direct TV in it's infinite wisdom has made it an 'extra' channel.

MM, you seem quite knowledgeable. Are there any specific books you might recommend?

I have seen and heard this definition of religion quoted often. Maybe someone more enlightened then me can answer the question that needs to be answered before accepting that ideal as a personal philosophy.

What is "kindness"?

Is it kind to give unqualified acceptance to the pragmatically incorrect position of another, or kind to enlighten them with facts?

Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth - There is no spoon.

Honestly curious, is their a Dalai version of "tough kindness" equating to "tough love"?

I could explain kindness but it would be relative. More along the lines of tough love.
