What is you favorite wine to drink?[:)]

MasterRenegade77 -> RE: Wine (4/3/2006 6:01:08 PM)

I don't drink wine & if most ever saw all the things that go into the hoppers they'd never drink it again...

IronBear -> RE: Wine (4/3/2006 8:05:51 PM)

When I get my ass into gear the home made fruit wine or rose hip wine.. Commercially? I favour a number of the Australian wines depending on how I feel. Riesling from the Rhineland is a favourite too and of course for me as far as stuff I can and have got to start making in copious quantities... MEADE........

Clois du Bois---i'm a cheap date...lol...now if we are talking Champagnes, well that's a different story.  [:D]

BrutalAntipathy -> RE: Wine (4/3/2006 8:15:43 PM)

I'll choose a horn of mead over a flute of wine any day.

Reds - Just about anything from the Cotes du Rhone region.  i've indulged in Opus One which was a delight, but not in my budget currently :)  Rothschild Cabernet is good.

Whites - A decent quality Chardonnay.  Far Niente from Napa is good.  Ferrari Carano is a safe choice.  For a decent $12-15 bottle, Rodney Strong works.

i'm kinda particular, lol.

I don't drink wine, but I use it for cooking in most of the dishes I make and serve it to dinner guests. For white meats and most desserts, I like to use a sweet white wines which are much more readily available than they used to be. For dark meats or hearty dishes I like Cabernet Sauvignon. I do enjoy an occasional glass of champagne for toasting purposes.

I'm definately a dry red drinker.

Chile and Australia produce some fantastic Merlots. Australia has some of the best under $25 a bottle Shiraz you could ever find. A good California Syrah is to murder for if you're eating good spicey Indian food or wonderful haberno laced food. I also very much enjoy Bordeaux table wines.

"Frostfire" semi-sweet wine from the Breitenbach Winery in Walnut Creek, Ohio.  Tastes like you just plucked a grape right off the vine.

MissyRane -> RE: Wine (4/4/2006 9:16:28 AM)

Red red wiine, stay close to meee... don't let me be alone.. it's tearin' apart.. My blue, blue heart....definitely red wine here, no specific brand though I'm never sure of the names just know where they're placed in the store[:)]

I just tried some mead this year for the first time.  Good stuff.  EXPEN$IVE, though.

As far as wines, I like big, dry reds.  Cabernets, Zinfandels.  Not picky as to region.  I've had ones I like from all over.  There's a great wine bar here in town that offers "flights" of wines based on a theme.  Australian reds, etc.  Lots of fun.

fergus -> RE: Wine (4/4/2006 9:42:03 AM)

Not much of a wine drinker, but I reckon I like a white zinfendel so long as it is not too fruity.

As for beer ;)

Guinness, Beck's Dark, Harp, Pete's Wicked Lager ... some others ... but must be decent!

Gauge -> RE: Wine (4/4/2006 10:15:31 AM)

I no longer drink at all, but when I did I favored dry, red wines. The white or blush wines went down far too easily and I could find myself passed out on the floor in no time. White Zinfandel? Fugghetaboutit. Two glasses, if I didn't drink it right from the bottle. Red wines were more to my liking and pared better with most everything I ate. It has been quite a while, but there is a terriffic Merlot from Chile called Conch Y' Toro (at least I think that is the name... I am too lazy right now to look it up) that is very affordable and quite tasty. Sebastianti (I think that is the name... it's close at least) Zinfandel is another one that is worthwhile.

For cooking I use whatever burgundy or red or white wine I can find that is fairly cheap. There is actually no benefit to spending a ton of money on a wine that is going into a meal. The flavor is what you are after and you will not really taste the wine for it's true character.

I miss drinking wine, but I have found that some of the non-alcoholic wines are actually pretty good. Now, I wouldn't compair them to a good bottle of wine, but for one who likes wine but can't tolerate the alcohol it is a fine substitute. St. Regis is a brand of non-alcoholic wine that comes to mind.

Any good vintage of Cabernet from Napa, Lake, Sonoma or Mendicino counties.

And I don't subscribe to the typical yuppie/snoby pseudo-urbanite/credit card mindset....I'll drink it with anything - Fish, chicken, lamb, etc.

I'm always a big fan of a good, heady Cabernet Sauvignon.  I'm a fan of selective Merlots as well.  Creighton has a good one for both types.

Fortunately, my father-in-law travels to California quite a bit on business and buys quite a few cases of wine while he's there.  He always makes sure we end up with a few bottles.  He's a great guy, and he has awesome taste in wine.  I've never disagreed with him.

MsIncognito -> RE: Wine (4/4/2006 11:23:36 AM)

I'm fond of dry white wines (reds give me a booming headache) that are on the lighter side. A pinot grigio or gewurztraminer are my favourites and I tend to have a preference for French and German varieties but there are a few really nice ones from right here in Ontario that I enjoy as well. East Dell Estates (www.eastdell.com) has a really nice gewurzt that I like. Plus they are a short drive from us so we can drive to the winery to get my fix and enjoy lunch in their lovely dining room.

Last year a friend of mine raved about Wolf Blass wines so I had to try them. For all the fuss, I wasn't really impressed and went back to my Ontario wine.

sensiia -> RE: Wine (4/4/2006 11:33:16 AM)

I am not much of a wine drinker but if I were to it would most definitely be Pouilly Fuisse. A nice dry white french wine.
