Status: offline 		Even the Democrats around here who voted for Obama are feeling let down. I think people were expecting something very differant from what they're getting and they're not happy about it.

Status: offline 		Stalin had pretty much broken Germany's back by the time American troops arrived anywhere in Europe apart from Italy, after all.


Actually Stalin had taken the measure of Hitlers's supermen before the U.S. even got in the war.  The battle of Moscow sent over 350,000 German soldiers to their graves.

Er, that's what I said in the post you answered: the D Day landings couldn't have taken place if the Russians hadn't already kicked the shit out of the Wehrmacht. 3 out of every 5 German troops killed during the second world war died in Russia, though the Soviets can't really claim any credit for the poor bastards who froze to death because Hitler thought that invading Russia in autumn was a good idea.

What... they do not have winter in Germany?
On the other hand no one was expecting that winter. 
It was the coldest winter on record.
