Story Here In a move hailed as a step toward fairness for same-sex couples, President Barack Obama is ordering that nearly all hospitals allow patients to say who has visitation rights and who can help make medical decisions, including gay and lesbian partners. I know lots of people who are gonna be happy with this...as well they should be Congrats and honestly about time

It goes back to legalities, mike. For a hospital, even more so. When faced with a dying patient, do you listen to the lover, regardless of sexual orientation, or the family? Now, this makes it the patients decision... if they can decide.

Oh tazzy I understood the issues...I also understood the bitterness of some family members where their loved ones orientation was concerned.People lost in some small minded past who have turned their backs on a family member....only to "reclaim" that member at the end...and shove aside the significant other that had shared that life the family had shunned.

Im not arguing your point, mike. just pointing out that legalities dont allow us to get lost in the family history of a patient.

I never had a problem with this. Tho- the new rule sounds good at first glance. (assuming the corps haven't turned the lawyers on the sickly)

Granted and understood...but this isn't a new problem...and as welcome as these new rules are,they are still way overdue....and sadly way late for many who in the past have been barred from their s/o's bedside in time of crisis and passing.
