Sadly, Angelika, the Americans who most need to learn that are the ones who've spent the last year and a bit throwing a continual tantrum over there being a black Democrat with a professional qualification in the white house, and so are the last people who are going to pick up any tips on etiquette from the lad.
Pity, but there it is.

The Japanese bow all the time, especially to those with a position of power. Deep bows, deeper than what Obama has ever done. And the Japanese aren't throwing a fits over what their emperor bows too, or the angle of the bows. Seriously, why are people making a big deal out of this?

Because Obama bowed low and the Emperor didn't.

Bowing that low is what someone of lower status does, it's not a sign of respect between equals but a display of inferiority.

Nixon did it right, see how they both bowed at the same angle:

Obama really did look weird doing that.

ETA:

"This photo will get Democrat President Obama a lot of approving nods in Japan this weekend, especially among the older generation of Japanese who still pay attention to the royal family living in its downtown castle. Very low bows like this are a sign of great respect and deference to a superior."

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/11/obama-emperor-akihito-japan.html

You are pointing to.... Nixon???

Is that who you want President Obama to emulate?

He was a lot better at diplomacy than anybody you've had in power since, so there's worse role models.

Lucy... Both the American Revolution and The War of 1812 were fought against Great Britian to break forever the yoke of Royality.

America doesn't bow.

No one here has to slightest idea that there is a war of 1812.

Again, you're forgetting that people who aren't Americans often know more history.

Oh I know of this war I believe it occurred in the seventeen century, errm on the twelfth year.

There is a war every four years it's like the Olympics and 12 is a multiple of four.

No.

The Declaration of Independece puts the colonies in a state of rebellion against the crown...That is "prima-fascia" evidence of the instigator of that conflict.
The War of 1812 the U.S. declared war on England not vis-versa.
Yes we started both of them

Wrong about not me knowing the history of the early 1800s, either USA or Napoleonic wars, so very very wrong, and way beyond Tchaikovskys addition to history. My father was an 1800s war buff, complete with history, maps, uniforms, troops, weapons, battle plans,  art  and hand written family history. From the Battle of New Orleans to the Battle of Waterloo and way beyond. Learning about it was requisite to get quality time with him. so meh, welcome to your assumptions
