True enough, you are right about that......it doesnt have to be the world

Shit DYB when you go off the rails...you really go off.Tiger is special....now whether or not you find athletic ability to be worthy of the adulation heaped on it in this society is besides the point.Your not understanding  the level of skill it takes to do what he does at the game he chose to devote his life to is far more telling than how many woman he scoops up.
Go out and play a round or two....than realise that despite the fact that you aren't even playing the same game(courses set up for professional competition would drive every duffer from the sport...lol)just how hard it is to sink that little white ball in that little cup.
Sorry about the Tiger rant...... bitch about his lack of morals if you like....but trying to minimize his talent is sheer bullshit.

Sorry to piss you off even more Mike but that is load of crap. Golf is not a sport it is a skill. Much like bowling. I don't know that much about it but have watched it a couple of times. Cabrera won the Masters last year? He walked the course smoking and sporting about 50 extra pounds.

Tell me, if Woods wasn't part black would he be that special to you and the rest of the golf world? Come on now. Be honest. And, anyone that actually calls himself "tiger" is to be laughed at.
"Piss me off"...not likely DYB...you aren't nearly that abrasive,an example Tommie is arogant and an asshole to boot that shit pisses me off...you merely have views and are prepared to argue those views.
But on this count you are exhibiting your ignorance...sure tha game can be played and at a high level of skill by some of the most un athletic looking specimens
But Davy Wells ...and Mickey Lolich were highly sucessful MLB pitchers for years and years carrying more than an extra 50...does this mean they were not athletes?
Charles Barkely was not the most disciplined of physical specimens...was he less an athlete ?
In 2000 I played Bethpage Black...the day prior to shutting it down to the public....in other words it was set up for the pro's....narrow freeways...rough deep and plush.....greens cut short and tight so as to feel like glass....and that's what these guys play on.
Imagine a basketball court set up to be more difficult for the pro than for the schoolyard player....perhaps 14ft rims....and construction boots instead of Air Jordans.
Yet these guys can hit a ball from 180 yds...drop it beyond the cup....and spin it back.
Skill set my ass...they are pro athlete's....deal with it.
And oh yeah Tiger would be that special as a golfer no matter his skin tone...whether or not Tiger as a pitchman would be more or less "special" with a paler look is an altogether different conversation.[8|]

No he is not ...he is a fucking athelete
No tommie...he is an exceptionally gifted fucking athlete.....and that makes him....in the context of his chosen profession very fucking special.
Whether you or DBL care to accept that fact is besides the point.

now whether or not you find athletic ability to be worthy of the adulation heaped on it in this society is besides the point.Your not understanding the level of skill it takes to do what he does at the game he chose to devote his life to is far more telling than how many woman he scoops up.

The difficulty of the game is not germaine...he is an athelete.
He plays a geme for money....lots of money but it is still a game and he is still an athelete.
He ain't special.

So many falsehoods in one post.....lots of folks play this game of his....most of us pay a nice chunk of change to be able to do so.....In Tigers case...by dint of his "specialness" ...that is turned on its ear....we as a public watch him perform his most excellant brand of golf...hence he get's paid a lot of money to do so.

Go out and play a round or two....than realise that despite the fact that you aren't even playing the same game(courses set up for professional competition would drive every duffer from the sport...lol)just how hard it is to sink that little white ball in that little cup.

It is a fucking game and no matter how well one plays it it has nothing to do with the persons ethical vallue.
And what the fuck does ethical value have to do with this conversation

Sorry about the Tiger rant...... bitch about his lack of morals if you like....but trying to minimize his talent is sheer bullshit.
To point out that his talent is just a fucking game is not minimizing his talent just his profession as it relates to ethical behaviour. How good someone is at some sport does not measure that persons ethical worth.
And how the fuck does a persons "ethical worth" have to do with whether or not a person is special as it applies to his chosen profession.
Have you slipped a fucking gear tonight tommie?

Mike, they showed that old dude, watson? , playing a the Masters. What is he 100? Name a sport where someone of that age can compete......Sorry, he isn't an athlete, and it isn't sport. Its a game of skill, bowling, billiards, shooting...
Watson didn't win though did he?
He couldn't hold onto the lead over 4 rounds.......that's why they have the senior tour...for guy's like Watson...who can no0t realistically be expected to compete with younger and stronger .....athletes on the regular Tour.[8|]

The only one I know if Chuckie. Chuckie was a good specimen in his day. Go back and look. Don't take the chuckie of today. Plus when did he quit. at 32-33? I looked up watson. He is 70! No need to go back and look....I remember Charles when he played at Auburn.
If no one you know of considers Tiger an athlete than you need to widen your circle of friends.....you are leading a very sheltered life...lol.By the way....best take a look at those shoulders and those arms...prior to any attempt to shove Tiger in a locker.....that guy spents more time working out than you do going shirtless.
Do you happen to know what Tiger is chasing...he is chasing fucking history......most majors ever in a career...he is at 13(or is it 14?) and chasing 18.As a golfer he would be this special if he was fucking purple.
If anyone in this conversation is starting to slide towards absurdity...it is the young man who is speaking on a subject in which he admits he knows nothing.[:)]

Yes, walked it with bag. Didn't break a sweat. Simply not a sport. If you can do it and smoke cigs at the same time. Sorry. Not a sport.

Um, you can't golf and smoke at the same time. Good luck doing a one handed golf swing.

If you mean you can walk from hole to hole while smoking, well sure. Just like football players can smoke while they're walking onto the field. But that's not exactly playing.

I present exhibit DYB-1 above, putting a boy into a locker because he wasnt an athlete - presumably this indicates that the boy in question was physically smaller than his abusers and this was thought adequate reason to abuse him, namely because he was known to be incapable of resisting.

This was clearly behaviour and treatment arising from the very inequalities that are inherent in life, in this instance the lesser physical development of the victim.

I propose that all children are fed growth hormone and anabolic steroids in order to eliminate such arbitrary differences between them and to suppress such discriminatory behaviour.

We might start with many posters on this thread who, it seems, are still children, afflicted by a view of the world in which it "oughta" be "fair".

There is only one way to make it "fair", and that is to succeed in changing things. This was all the rage for a century or so from the mid 1800s to the mid 1900s so it has been done and could be done again, if there is anything left to change that might have the required effects.

How.. belittling. Tiger was so popular, in the beginning, because he was biracial and good. He is now popular because he is just that damn good. Golf has leaped into the arena of a major sport because of Tiger. People want to watch him, not because he is part black, but because he plays the game well. He was the underdog... the black kid on the course. No longer. He is the one to beat... and his skin color doesnt have a thing to do with his ability or why millions of people love to watch him.

Funny.  I thought her comment on it all was dead on.  What good does it do to sit and cry over it?  What good does it do to point your finger like a child and say "Look, look....life isn't fair!!"  You can either make it your life's mission to keep yourself blameless by blaming everyone else and get nowhere...or try on your own.  You're either going to lose something you never had, or get somewhere on your own merit, and be going somewhere you never would have gone without the effort.

And just for the record, some people fail many, many times at a thing before they accomplish it.  But they succeeded by not giving up.

So basically shut the fuck up and quit complaining. If you were really "talented" then you'd succeed....

Basically what I'm saying is quit crying over spilt milk  Or...looking for sympathy?  Or...trying to prove a point that you think is valid and I don't.  Not only is the milk souring, but you aren't able to get what I'm saying, and I'm not going to waste time going over it.  If you want to believe you're destined to fail because you're black....so be it.

eyesopened -> RE: African complicity in the slave trade.... (5/3/2010 5:20:33 AM)

You really have missed my points.  I don't know how to help you understand my views.

I already said all human beings are born equal in value as human beings.  But human beings are not equal to each other.  If we were, what a boring, Steppford-like existance!  How beautiful is the rose and how different it is from the bird-of-paradise.  They are not equal flowers.  Yet they are both beautiful.  Things (and people) do not have to be excactly the same to be absolutely wonderful.

I worked with a young lady who was the victim of thalmidihyde.  She has no hands.  She has no feet.  She is just as valuable to the world as you are.  But she has never walked.  Hell, she can't even flip someone the bird in traffic!  But she does not spend her time whining about what she does not have.  She took what she has and made a life for herself.  She works, supports herself, pays her taxes and has a delightfully wicked sense of humor.   She did not set her sights at being a world-renown tennis player nor does she whine about how unfair it is that she never had that opportunity.  Is she equal in ability?  No.  But I submit that she is superior in spirit than most people I know.

Who should be "dispatched" when the world cannot support its own population is a strawman arguement.  It has nothing whatsoever to do with the point I was making nor the topic of this thread.  There have been studies that show over-crowding of animals lead to self-distructive behaviors that reduce the population.  In other words, they thin themselves out in some pretty awful ways.  http://www.psychlotron.org.uk/resources/environmental/A2_OCR_env_crowdinganimals.pdf
How that would play out with humans I could not answer as I have no expertise in that area.  I would not want choose to "dispatch" anyone but if I had to choose someone it would be anyone who has been proven without a doubt to have willfully abused a child.  Sorry, but there I lose my objectivity in seeing equal value.  I can't see those people needing to use the same air I breathe.  When it comes to people who enjoy harming children, I will admit to being a bigot.

Edited to add...
After working with the delightful woman I mentioned, it occurred to me that there are far too many people who have never had the sensation of walking or running.  I discovered http://www.narha.org/.   I donte.  It won't make people gain the use of their limbs, but it's something I can do, so I do.
