Oh Boy...Domyngblk.....a post with reason and logic...when will you learn...this is CM...you surely know, when you comment you must interject your comments with insults and foul stupidities in debased foul language, attempting to divert, redirect, intimidate, insult and attack personally, and generally hi-jack the thread.

Yup, ....have you ever seen the flick....A Day Without A Mexican.....a light flick.

The US needs the illegals.....how else to keep wages down, and profits up. Not only through the exploitations of the illegals, but the USofA citizen as well....why hire you, when I can get Jose' here cheaper.

Low wages+less job availability= maximizing profits.
And, that's the name of the game.

The Dry-wall.......oh yeah, that's a good one, no one but the US citizen pays...the imported China crap, could not be held to US standards in manufacture, as American made products are....NOOOOOOO, already a big issue problem for those who rebuilt after Katrina. And...if you plan on remodeling, or buying new....one question is...Where did the Dry Wall come from? That is going to be, or should be, in the escrow instructions; who is responsible for the dry-wall, origin of manufacture, installation, and/or removal as the case may deem necessary.

Well, I don't worry about such things......I always pay my Salvadorian, or Mexican Estate Landscaper in cash.....and I Always buy American......I Shop Wal-Mart...Always.

You don't mind hundreds of thousands, or millions, of foreigners flooding the job market here -- as long as they have a permit to do so?

Actually, I don't.  And as Ron pointed out before me, aside from me not minding, it contributes to those paying into taxes (vs those illegals who either don't pay tax at all, or paying taxes under someones name who isn't even alive, here, or earning money any more).  If an person from another country can migrate here, take the exams, learn the language so he can go to school, learn and succeed at school, to earn the credentials of whatever job he is pursuing, more power to him.  If  lazy, unmotivated Americans who just want to hold their hand out would just consider for a moment, if they're grades, or ambition, or faith and determination in themselves would count, the whole of America would be a better place.  We'd have better Dr's, better lawyers, better scientists...better executives on down the line.  Remember the white firemen who bitched about racial prejudiced...or reversed rational prejudiced...and wound up winning?  Thats what I mean.

**editted to add....I think merit (or earning your way) is a better way to do things, always.  To assume an American can do a better job based only on the fact he's American, is absurd...and I wouldn't want someone using that as a determination, if I was submitting my resume in a different country, if I went about the whole thing the legal and right way.

Not only that but the fact that US Corporations use the H1 to keep pay for talented professionals such as Engineers and Programmers low by bringing offshore workers. Of course, they add insult to injury by claiming we don't produce enough talented people to fill the need.....Which is obviously a bunch of shit.  If what they say is true then a US company wouldn't have to patent a product because the China or India would already have produced such a product. Its all a game with Corporations holding all the cards......The people need to stand up and stand up now

I know, same with nurses.  Instead of allowing the free market to work within national boundaries (wages would go up, companies would offer incentives, etc.) -- they just flood the American job market with nurses from the Philippines and etc.

And yet, people are only angry because unskilled foreign workers are "illegal" (as if their compliance with bureaucratic red tape would make any difference to the American economy).  There is a lot more at stake than that for the American middle class.  It's the loss of middle class jobs, the negative effect on wages and competition -- all of which is caused by unchecked LEGAL immigration.

Musicmystery -> RE: proposed immigration bill includes national ID (4/30/2010 2:24:32 PM)

The trade off, of course, is much higher prices for goods.

Given the success of Wal-Mart and other discount retailers, I doubt Americans are willing to pay what it would cost to "let the market" fix this. Truth is--this IS the market's solution.

Much higher consumer prices would also slow the economy--depressing the job market.

This sounds like you are advocating for slavery as a means to improve the economic position of Americans....didn't we try that once?

Rather than raise wages to attract more domestic interest in nursing these parasites go to any country where English is spoken and strip them of their needed nurses. They will pay them more than the prevailing wage there but significantly below what is paid here.
Consequently places like the Phillippines, Ireland, South Africa and Australia are chronically short of trained medical professionals.

MM thats not entirely true. There is nothing wrong with higher priced goods. In fact, it is healthy. Most if not all businesses would be able to increase top line revenues quickly with a healthy dose of inflation.  The higher consumer prices would drive higher wages as well as increased consumption.

In todays market why would you buy anything today when you have  a good chance that the price may be equal tomorrow or lower. I certainly keep little or not inventory around now for that basic fact. I let my supplier be my warehouse......Turn that around and sure....I will buy a bit extra cause I have a good idea that the price is going up....hence my supplier has lower inventories which he needs to cover.....and so on and so on......We've bought so much into the Reagan/Wally World model that we can't find our way back to reality.

So the only solution or path for our country is to maintain a system in which we keep buying cheap, low-quality Chinese junk?  And to keep the consumer junk cheap, we have to bring in unlimited foreign workers who will keep wages low and unemployment high?   So that's what our great country has been reduced to?  That fatalism has been fed to us from the top of the corporate empire, and it's turning us into slaves.

When he says "This is the market solution" I need to point out that this is not the "Free Enterprise Market solution" because much of the goods and services offered for sale are heavily subsidized by the state.

So American citizens will be required to prove they're not "illegal," while at the very same time, through the NAFTA program, unlimited numbers of foreign workers from Mexico and Canada are permitted to come here, on one condition, that they take middle-class (i.e. skilled) jobs.  And, while our country has an "immigration lottery" through which 55,000 foreigners (and their families) receive immigrant visas annually.  (Not to mention the H1B program, and the other immigration programs for skilled worker through which hundreds of thousands of foreign workers and their families are welcomed into this country with open arms).

The government's not trying to curb immigration, and they're not trying to save American jobs -- period.  And if they truly wanted to stop "illegal" immigration, they would secure the border. Since they're not securing the borders, the least they can do is refrain from imposing these kinds of measures on American citizens.

Maybe next, we can carry around cards to prove we're not sex offenders.  Etc. etc.

Shannie, if the roof is leaking and water is all over the furniture and carpets you need to fix the leak in the roof before you clean the carpet and furniture.
We need to "clean" both houses of congress come November.

Hi Popeye. :)  Look what happened with this so-called health care reform.  All we got in the end were impositions on the citizenry, period.  And that's exactly what happened in 1986, with Reagan's "Immigration Reform and Responsibility Act."  For the first time in this country's history, American citizens had to produce "documents" to earn their bread.  And it was all in the name of "controlling immigration," which did not happen.  Now I'm gonna have to carry a special indestructible card approved by the federal government under the same absolutely-false premise.  Unless they secure the borders, I know it's all false.  And if it's all false, why should the impositions be forced upon American citizens?    We already gave up the Fourth Amendment in the name of the fake "war on drugs," and I don't want to give up anything else based on false premises.
