NEW YORK – A suspect in last weekend's failed car bomb attack on Times Square was taken into custody late Monday while trying to leave the country, a law enforcement official said.

The suspect, a Pakistani, was identified at midnight Monday at John F. Kennedy International Airport and was stopped, said the official, who spoke to The Associated Press early Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation.

we picked up som poor slob for our trumped up terrorism event so we look like heros in the public and put the fear of terrorism fresh in the peoples minds once more to justify getting more money from everyone by an anon official because we dont want to put a name out for plausible deniability.

Its apparent that it was an al-Qaeda / Taliban style conspiracy of some sort, isn it.

Will jlf apologize, I wonder?

Or Mayor Bloomburg, who had "guessed" that it was someone who was "unhappy about health care... "

Run by a bunch of idiots.  According to the news, and this was on CNN, MSNBC etc, the bomb was a joke.  First the fertilizer was not the explosive kind, second the conspirators used fire crackers, third they evidently did not know that propane bottles have a pressure release valve to prevent catastrophic failure, and third that the gasoline would not burn hot enough to even come close to blowing up the propane bottles, that is if you can get them to blow up without venting because of the pressure increase.

the "poor slob" is identified as Faisal Shaszad, a Pakistani who was naturalized last year as a U.S. citizen.

Another misguided speculation by RO.

But unrelated to RO's dumbass conspiracies.... how's that thousand mile fence along the Mexican border looking as a workable means of keeping out Terrorists?

Can't understand why we are issuing citizenship to Pakistanis if in fact that was done.

And to top it all off they were all congradulating themselves for a "great job" NYC Police, Homeland Security, FBI, everyone BUT that former Marine hot dog vender who actually discovered the vehicle!
Anyone even heard his name on the Lame Stream Media?
What kind of thinking puts someone like Janet Napolitano in charge of Homeland Security?
Shouldn't there be someone in that position like that Marine who has a sharp eye?

No, I did not hear his name. Weren't there two guys? I read the names of some other guys, but my impression was that the man or men that alerted the police were deliberately kept nameless. Very suspicious, that.
