If only the person I'm negotiating with now was a woman........... on target earnings of £60kpa......... but only because when he got to that stage he'd have added around £120k to our bottom line and I should be driving a Ferrari. And its open ended for him, so in theory he could earn a million a year and I'd be driving a fleet of Bugatti Veyron's in every colour of the rainbow, leaving the unused ones on the gravel drive of my mansion. Alternatively should he turn out to be a dud he'll cost us next to nothing before being shown the door. Such is the nature of the jobs market. The lesson is to acquire the skills and knowledge required and develop the abilities you have to maximise your earning potential - that so many just dont seem to get this after 30 years is surprising, as well as distressing for employers who can after all buy electric seat warmers for under a tenner. E

It still makes sense to cut top salaries, give yourself leeway to be able to hire staff in tough times and when they are most needed , reduce the pressures on existing staff, less workload, more people to do the work and your helping the government. Everybody wins. But no we will pay one guy or lady or a minority of people top dollar because its the recession and the unemployed can go to hell. It s this attitude that has prevailed and it is why we are in the predicament we are in kevin

The key point is a dud on an entry level salary will cost the company next to nothing before being shown the door whereas duds on much higher salaries are costing companies and the economy big time and arent delivering. Where is the sense in this? No sense but then business executives dont know their arse from the hole in the ground. Many of them have not gone to college and have no clue whatsoever. Even listening to them I know they are ignorant. We will be loyal to our shareholders , have a commitment to economic growth and developing employee potential blah blah blah, such unadulterated crap, yet nobody says anything and these guys are allowed to blather their way out of issues that affect is all. The only thing business leaders are committed to is lining their pockets kevin
