Good one Sunshine!

Perhaps on a more serious note - no-one knows me better than I know me. I know why I do this, I understand how my life has shaped me this way, and why I embrace my submissiveness and my masochism so warmly and so happily.

And yet, very rarely on this site do I see any of these amateur psychologists come up with any 'theory' that even in a minute way fits what I know about ME. Maybe it's spot-on for themselves or for others, but so far it does not fit me. That's why I read these generalisation threads, roll my eyes and walk on by.

Now that I know and understand myself, I'm actually living it. I don't want or need to endlessly discuss why I'm a sub, why I'm not a slave, why I'm a masochist. That's nobody's business but mine. For me, the important task is to find the person whose key fits my lock, metaphorically speaking. I'd much rather do it than talk about it

But first you must have a life to examine?

What's the use of examining if there are no experiences worth reflecting on or learning from? You can spend your whole life theorizing (sp?) or you can get out and experience it, then reflect and examine reality... or you can waste your life just thinkin' 'bout stuff.

Every time I hear phrases like "anti-thinking", I picture someone whacking off to a pic of Ayn Rand.

Having said that... I also believe thinking, and examination, are good. Being a 'hole to my friends, is not.

And a spanking? Only cos I think she likes them ;-)

In all seriousness, I concur. I love the passage (just look at my sig line) but it is really meant for reflecting one one's own life and experiences not pontificating on what could be.

Too wordy?

Unstimulating. Bovine. Not conducive of any further thought other than "Yawn! I agree, now let me go back to chewing my cudsies" or perhaps the occasional vindicative "Ha Ha HA HA ha! _THAT_ will teach the lil' WHIPPERSNAPPER for DARING to ask us TOO MANY QUESTIONS!"

Really Sunshinemiss, this was beneath you. It certainly did make you the popular lady, though!

Bitter. Anti-intellectual. Intolerant of differences. Newbies, Ladies, and Gentlemen... THIS is the bdsm community, in a nutshell. (chitty-boom!)

It's symptomatic of today's excess that the un-reflective (read: stupid) think they have the right not only not to think, but to dictate that others either not think or think exclusively behind closed doors.

I focus a lot on what my motivations are, and the undercurrents and details of how I interact in a Ds dynamic. I learn a great deal from others who are willing to share what they know of themselves as well, and how their dynamics work. However, you and Socrates both insist on not examining your own lives, nor others lives, but rather forcing others into the molds you think they ought to fit. It is very arrogant and annoying.

This thread is blatant anti-thought, which I have every right to dismiss.

Also, thinking critically about oneself and not others is ridiculous, not to mention tantamount to, on your part, a form of (ideological) fascism, like your privacy is so sacred I can't even *think* about it.

Maybe George Carlin was right when he said that the Germans lost the war, but the fascists won -- the new form comes dressed in smiley faces, sunshine, pills, and crude materialistic 'raw experience'.

You hve no right to dismiss anything. The world is not your class and you aint the teacher. Thats the point that is being made. You are being dismissive of thoughts contrary to your own or out of the box you deem fit to put there. Sad really...

Wait, wait a minute.  Are you saying I go to work in the morning because I like it, it feels right, or I'm comfortable with it?    Oh, Ok, well I guess I could read the "subject" line ...

No, I'm simply dismissive of people who fail to think, especially those who start threads called "theory of _______".

Read some Hannah Arendt, and maybe you'll see some of the pitfalls of failing to think.
