Wait a minute. THIS isn't real life? ahh man![:@]

I pay more attention to things online than I do offline. I've always seen myself as average and plain, to the point of being near invisible. It has always surprised me when people remember me or take notice of me. Less so online, so I guess I feel as if I have more of a presence here. But, that is probably because I "talk" more here than I would in person. In fact, I've had several situations of being surprised and extremely uncomfortable online, when I was taken notice of.

While I can be playful and mischievous, when I'm feeling at ease enough to be myself, I'm also reserved and quiet for the most part. I keep to myself and unless you really make a point of catching my attention, chances are I'm not even going to know you were there (in real life). My sense of humor is much more evident online, unless you are paying attention to the amusement glistening in my eyes, you will seldom know in real life just how amused I am by most things.

On-line i try to be up-beat and positive.

i save the depression, tears, and hopeless feelings for private times.

I'm glad the topic is being so well-enjoyed. It would be interesting to hear if other people see us as we see ourselves (but that's a whole different thread I suppose).

You know Icarys, I once did a workshop where people took a moment to say this to people:

I see you as ___, ___ , ____.

Only three words. Three adjectives. It was a moving experience! I still have that list somewhere back home. I thought about doing that - people giving feedback or folks just saying three words about themselves, but it seemed too restrictive and not appropriate for this venue. May I suggest, though, that it is quite an interesting idea... perhaps emailing people with that kind of feedback. Hmmm... I must think about that. Maybe I will just send a snail mail... oooooooo... or make art.... hey that's a ...

Ohhh I got distracted.

best,
sunshine

I think that would be an interesting idea...

I actually think I have a good idea of how people see me mostly but I'm sure I'd be surprised by some.

SilverMark -> RE: How do you see yourself? (6/6/2010 8:03:14 AM)

I think I am pretty much the same on or off-line...I know that those who have met me off-line after meeting me on-line seem not to be surprised at who I am...

How do you see your personality? Is it the same online as offline? Do you express yourself differently? Is there something you do differently here versus in real life, face to face meetings/discussions?

Great topic Sunshine!!  In many respects I think my personality is the same online as offline, but there is one part that I know that is absolutely not an accurate statement.  I am more able and willing to engage in self disclosure and personal truths in either an online media or through written word rather than through verbal or real life interaction.  The reasons are varied, but they do incorporate the reason that you listed as well, Sunshine.

Other than that I think I express myself the same in person as I do on here.  I believe when I am at the end of my patience level I am just as frank and blunt with people in real life as I am here on line. The other reality is when I see people hurting I think I do try to reach out to them, even if it means going against the flow....

I'm not here to be popular... I'm not even really here to make friends.... I'm here to learn things, and if I can make some great friendships along the way, than that's an added bonus. But, if I make some people mad.....well, then that's really not my problem. I'm not going to lose sleep over that. Which is funny, because this is coming from a person who suffers from free floating guilt.

I'm pretty much the same online as I am in person. The only difference I can think of off the top of my head is I self edit more online, not to say I don't do that in person, I just do it a lot more online.

Now that I say that... it's funny (odd funny) I can disclose how much I'm fucking, when I'm fucking and how I'm fucking (I like the word fuck [:)]) but when it comes to what I consider personal, forget about it, I'm not sharing with the world.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: How do you see yourself? (6/6/2010 8:18:03 AM)

I am sooo fabu online and online I live in a princesses palace. In real life, not so much. Im also smarter offline. I cant believe I told you that. Please dont let it get around. I have an airhead image to uphold.

Forever a smart ditz

Haha believe it or not, I self-edit MORE online than off.

This has been a great thread to read sunshine. What I really find interesting is people either are really into self-disclosure or really hesitant to do it online. Someone should start a thread on that! (not me, I did my thread for the month and I suck at it! )

You swear more in real life.

You underestimate yourself more online.

And you are one of the few people with my actual phone number. That might tell you something. Stop being paranoid. It is completely unfounded. But thank you for checking. (and I sent you monkey stickers!)

GreedyTop -> RE: How do you see yourself? (6/6/2010 8:31:22 AM)

I'm pretty much the same RL as I am online.

Kind of quiet, nurturing, yet sassy and cynical.

sunshinemiss -> RE: How do you see yourself? (6/6/2010 8:36:21 AM)

Dear Icarys and lushy,
I respectfully ask you to take that to private.

Thank you,
sunshine
