something which interviewed fans after the game  voiced clearly, the England players are simply not hungry enough, it is all down to money, the playing for your country thing has died a death. Maybe football in the UK is dying what with massive club debt and prima donna players and their salaries. At one time it was considered an honour to play for one's own country, financial reward was never even thought about.

I totally agree to that. Apart from that it also astonished me in the past how much fuss here was at times in the news about their Wags where I was wondering WTF...why are they that much in the press for just being their partner??? I seriously can't remember to have seen that much in the press about footballers wifes back home as it was here at times (and yes I know that beckenhams one used to sing or so but in general here seems to be a higher fuss about their partners as well as I am used to from home). But maybe i am just not interested enough to read the gossip papers at home whereas here I see more of such stuff due to the free newspapers whilst using public transport...

lol no way England doesn't beat Slovenia

i agree though and they should dump Capello (i don't think they should have gone with a coach who only handled club teams, it seems like that's a lot of the problem)

Absolute garbage.....no heart in them.....over a £100k a week gets you that?!

Doesn't help when the manager has us set up to play a continental style game. It doesn't work us....we're not continentals...different culture and different style of football. England are at our best when we're playing a typically English game.....high tempo....getting in the opposition's face.....and not giving them a minute's peace on the ball.....and once we've won the ball getting it forward quickly. Not fannying around Italian style.

And....he's picking the wrong players.... Joe Cole should be playing...he has done it before with England......Defoe is the best finisher in England....very quick....and lethal in the box.....but yet he persists with Heskey! Madness.

Thing is.......the draw has really opened up for England....another wasted opportunity. People are assuming we'll get it together against Slovenia....but I'm struggling to see how.....struggling for confidence.....picking players out of form and not good enough anyway...such as Lennon.....can't see where a decent performance is coming from.

England should have beaten both Algeria and the USA on paper. A glance at league form for the teams show you that quite clearly. The fact we didnt is down to one thing, heart, both our opponents had it in spades and wanted to win. England seemed to think strolling about was good enough. Rooney, undoubtedly one of the worlds top strikers, had the worst game I can recall him playing in an England shirt. Lampard and Gerrard, although playing out of position, didnt show the creativity in midfield that we are used to.

Dont start me off on the manager. Capello doesnt seem to know how to play the team tactically. Lampard and Gerrard both played out of position. Against the USA he brought on Wright-Phillips on the left, when he is a right sided player, but left joe Cole, who is naturally left sided, on the bench. As Gent has pointed out, Heskey isnt a patch on Defoe, or even Crouch. Lets hope he picks the right squad, because Slovenia wont be a walk in the park.

If I had to pick two teams to qualify, judged on previous games, it would be Slovenia and the USA.  Infact, the USA should qualify anyway, I think they are too strong for Algeria and five points will be enough for them

I think a helluva lot has to happen for Brazil to not win the Cup this time round.

We're through! England AND USA!

Slovenia 0 England 1 - a much better performance by England
USA 1 Algeria 0 - USA finish first in the group (keep telling you not to write them off.....)

Now we see who we play in the first of the knock out matches - to be decided tonight

Wow, 1 win, 2 draws and the U.S. is first in their group?  God that group sucked!  Either that or they were all just awesome, and I saw some of the 'highlights' from that group.  Let's just say my money is not on 'awesome'.

I couldn’t help myself LadyEllen...what with all the bragging going on. I’ve no illusions on our ultimate fate however.

I wish us both well but will not be expecting much. But... the way things are going who knows one of us could make it to the semi’s with a lot of luck.

Oh good grief. Not another penalty shoot out.

Good news for the US though; the quarter finals are in reach

Germany or Ghana....doesn't really matter....if England don't improve we're out either way....

This isn't a good German side however...so that's in our favour....they're in a transition period...a few young lads coming through....

Only 3 England players have lived up to their billing....Terry....Cole....Gerrard...the rest...woeful.......

I have to disagree NG; against the USA we didnt live up to the billing for sure, but it was a freak goal the US scored and in all fairness the US played pretty well. Against Algeria we were indeed woeful, and unbelievably so. Against Slovenia today we were at about our best and it was pretty good - not good enough to win the cup, but deserving of going through for sure and with around a 40% chance of beating the Germans.

As for individual players, I dont know if youve seen the email yet? The one with the Muppets as the England team after the Algeria performance? The one that even so had Heskey in it?
