I have to disagree NG; against the USA we didnt live up to the billing for sure, but it was a freak goal the US scored and in all fairness the US played pretty well. Against Algeria we were indeed woeful, and unbelievably so. Against Slovenia today we were at about our best and it was pretty good - not good enough to win the cup, but deserving of going through for sure and with around a 40% chance of beating the Germans.

As for individual players, I dont know if youve seen the email yet? The one with the Muppets as the England team after the Algeria performance? The one that even so had Heskey in it?

E

Ellen...these are players on a £100k+ a week....the Yank players warm Hull's bench at best...Donovan is the only one among them who could get a game in a Premier League team...England were shocking....

Algeria...even worse...

Slovenia....very lucky we were playing a team just happy to be at the world cup.....

England have been abysmal....absolute dog shite.....

And if this was Germany from 1990 we'd get mullered......fortunately it's a Germany in a transition period.....

I can appreciate your pessimism NG; must be difficult to think otherwise when it comes to footie coming from the north east.

Reality more like....England have been shite.....the optimistic part is that this isn't a good German side.....

Typical England though...the draw really opened up....could have been....Ghana....then Uruguay.....instead it's Germany and then Argentina....a golden opportunity thrown away...

Crikey man, remember the 40s spirit! Recall the great speeches of Churchill, standing alone against the Germans...... "this is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the beginning....", and "if the English football team wins a thousand world cup finals, it will be said that this was their finest hour" and all that.

Except for Dempsey, Holden, Howard, Spector, Guzan and Hahnemann, who all played in the Premiership last season.

Yeah.....fair doos.....but there's only player who'd get a game in the England team and that's the keeper...

England need to prove to themselves more than anyone else what they're made of.....too many excuses to date....

Ah yes.....the good old "lol"....the seal of approval and final word in any conversation. Although you're slipping...."ROFLMAO"...is the one I've come to expect. Where does it end though? lol....lmao....roflmao....."laughed so much my cock has just dropped off"......anymore?...and were you really laughing?.....and why hasn't "FACT" entered this conversation?

Well let's see what we have for "Facts".

The US is now in a bracket where it is possible they will get to the semis.  England, not so much.  Would you not agree the reason for this is in no small part due to England's blunders and ineptitude?

Neither the US or England are very good at scoring goals.  That is compounded for
England without Beckham on those corner and free kicks.

The EPL may be the greatest league in the world.  But that's doesn't really translate to International success.  How many of the most athletic ball handlers, booming legs, and prolific scorers in the EPL are not English?

Yep...they are...and that doesn't exclude personal attitude...

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/26062010/58/world-cup-2010-english-team-enrage-world-media.html

that story reminds me quite frankly on their attitude 4 years ago, where the agreement was that every country has one public session where local people can watch them at their training...

well...of course "important" england was having none of it with cutting the numbers down to 500 and less and then only children were allowed to attend...after some longer googling I finally found it (only know about it as it made my mother laugh when she told me that story after picking me up from the airport soon after that happened, as we live close to where they stayed 4 years ago):

Well....

Firstly....the Premier League isn't necessarily the 'greatest in the world'....it's probably the most exciting because we play with a gung ho attitude...which means an end to end game......but...technically...the Spanish league is superior. The English style is to go out and get forward at any given opportunity.......in contrast to say the Italian and German style where it's more important to be organised...which leads to a game of cat and mouse...and boring at times.....

England's national situation is down to English culture. In England...it's club first and country second.....which has implications for the national team in a way which you could only understand if you lived in a country where the national team is of secondary importance. There aren't so many countries in the world where the national team is almost an afterthought.

Yes here, most of the time the team doesn't even register as an after thought.  They just guaranteed that to continue.  they had the best draw they were probably ever gonna get for a path to the semis.

Now they come home because once again they can't really score.

I watched the match....and the US didn't create much......then again Ghana didn't create a great deal......

Thought a draw would have been a fair result.....

The US did OK - I'd say theyve advanced their cause by some way and its only a matter of time before they get further in a tournament (at which point a team like Portugal will take them to the cleaners).

And Butch - bear in mind that the Scots, Welsh and Irish will all be supporting Germany this afternoon. Its the England team playing (in less than an hour now) and the rest of the UK hates us with a passion when it comes to this sort of thing.
