Awesome, I hope your research goes well.

But you left out the one that forms the majority of atheists positions:

There is no evidence of god.

No need for "belief"

That is actually an Agnostic not and athiest. I am an agnostic, but I choose to believe.

ag·nos·tic - http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/agnostic
–noun

1. a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as god, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience. 2. a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study. –adjective
3. of or pertaining to agnostics or agnosticism. 4. asserting the uncertainty of all claims to knowledge.

If you chose to believe, how are you an agnostic?

Would you mind terribly not including your words in a quote attributed to me. I get that your trying to do your response in red which is a bit of a pain in the ass to respond to but would still be fine if you weren't messing up and responding to me in black as well. This for instance this comes off as being attributed to me and that's not cool.

my apologies I will try to be more careful.

Also I asked why people felt it was ok to tell me my position in the original post:

When an atheist explains his position around here there are a number of people who explain to said atheist that isn't in fact their position and presume to attribute a different position to said atheist. How do you people consider that to be remotely reasonable? It certainly wouldn't be for any other group. For instance it would be ridiculous for me to say to a Christian no, no, no that's not your position; you believe that:

*The earth is flat and sits immovable upon pillars. Isaiah 40:22 KJV, 1 Samuel 2:8 KJV, Psalm 93:1 KJV
*Unicorns are real. Job 39:9-12 KJV
*You need to murder everyone in town and their livestock if a single person in the town isn't Christian. Deuteronomy 13:13-19 KJV

How does doing this to an atheist make it any different?

No one can tell you what your position is, unless you have told them what it is and they are stating it back to you.  Other than that, they can tell you definitions of words, they can state theories and they can tell you their own positions or what they think. But they cannot tell you what your position is.

And yes, it would be ridiculous of you to assume that as a Christian I believe ANYTHING in the Bible. Because other than the wisdom sayings and the teachings of Jesus, I don't.

God just left a message on my answering machine.  He said this thread has made him want to do more smiting than has been seen in centuries.

He sounded just like Morgan Freeman.

I knew this would happen when I saw the face of George Burns in my cheese toast this morning.

Amen

IMO if you choose to believe while accepting that you don't, can't, and won't know, you'd still be agnostic.

AGNOSTIC:
a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as god, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.

I believe there is no way to know that there is a higher power. (there is no tangiable evidence for it)

But I choose to believe despite not having proof or evidence.

Example: I don't know what you will do, but I BELIEVE you will do the right thing. (an admission that I don't know but still choosing to believe.)

I wish Morgan could tell me how to make pics smaller so I could post them.  He said that info died with George though.

Amen

Can the Madonna boobs be purchased separately or are you keeping them as a set?
Morgan Freeman was probably listening to Michael Douglas.  "greed is good"

If you believe you are a believer, not an agnostic.

You are reading things into your definitions that are not there.

If I say I KNOW there is a God, I would be a liar not a believer. If I say I don't believe that would also make me a liar. The truth is I don't know (agnostic) but I choose to believe (believer).

I am not reading into my definition at all. I am posting the definition from dictionary.com and telling you that I am a person who holds that the existence or the ultimate cause, as god, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable or that human knowledge is limited to experience. Call that whatever you want to call it, but dictionary.com calls it AGNOSTIC.  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/agnostic

And despite not knowing I still choose to believe.

It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid. Luke 16:17 NAB

Christians have to follow the law, Jesus said so several times and the law is very clear on the killing of infidels.Your just lying, it makes sense you don't want everyone in town to know that you're going to murder them. But I know what your real position is because I spent a few seconds looking it up in a book.

No you're wrong agnostics can't be believers, I looked it up in a dictionary.

And right before that he says
Luke 16:15- "...but God knoweth the heart.

he also said
Luke 10:16- the law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God is preached and every man presseth unto it.

He stated that the law and prophets were until John (John is dead). So while the law is not invalid; the kingdom of god, which he stated is within you in Luke 17:21, is in effect and is what followers of His teachings should push towards and trust that God knows their heart.

I don't know what book you read, but if its in the Bible, I wouldn't put a whole lot of weight on it if it doesn't seem to be a moral thing to do. (of course the part about taking my enemies as sex slaves does have a bit of bdsm appeal to me) [:D] You could be right. I might be a liar. I might be plotting to kill everyone right now. You might be at the top of that list. Hell I might be a fucking infidel myself and have to take my own life (afterall I wear polyester so according to the law I deserve death, don't I). Only God knows. [;)]

Damn, we agnostics are irritating aren't we.....I guess that's mostly because we don't give shit whether you believe or not.
