You hit what I see as a fundamental problem and one I encounter often. Too many people representing themselves as 'Dominant' or 'submissive', "ACT".
Actors are fun to be with if you're interested in participating in role-play or creating a scene but as a relationship partner - I never found them desirable. 'Acting' takes work and often doing so results in the acting source generating unscripted lines such as; "I need a break from submitting." or "I am just not in the mood to act dominant."
These are usually the same people needing to have a reference point and list of 'dominant' or 'submissive' acts. They are not method actors; having nothing within them or their experiences to bring into their acting role. Therefore they require a confirming crutch of 'acts' which will identify them for all in the audience as 'dominant' and 'submissive'. You know, like the 'slut', or in generally accepted circles, the 'other woman' in any play, having red hair. As credible as the reference may be, and confirmed as it has been in history by the like of Michaelangelo in his artistic renderings of innocent Eve having being blond (having more fun?) and a a 'sinning Eve' being red-headed (having even MORE fun?); I'm sure there are SOME exceptions and not ALL redheads are sluts!
Not that people like this aren't fun to have around, usable, or make interesting bit players for experimental way 'off-Broadway' fantasies fulfilled; but as friends, or beyond that to consider them as part of a relationship? Who would want to have to determine if even that aspect of themselves is real or an 'ACT'.
