I never said that I thought it was ok as presented. Notice that I asked for input from others to try to clarify my own feelings, which I did, and it resulted in my declining the invitation.

If it sounded as though I was saying that I thought 13 was an appropriate age to have someone else's sexuality paraded before you, I did not write clearly. I don't.

What I was trying to say was that I do not think that any age is too young to be given an age appropriate answer to a request for information, (what you tell a 5 year old is very different from what you tell a 12 year old, etc). but that this situation did not fall into that category.

If anything I wrote sounded like I am seeking approval for breaching generational boundaries, I am sincerely sorry and do not want to encourage or be party to such behavior.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not going to chime in on the 12 year old, but will continue to question the whole idea that they need not to be polite to the "guest" and share the hot water. Those things to me indicate you would be going on a trip to be treated like crap in front of others, who would somehow take part by being rude to you and making you take cold showers. I find that unacceptable.

I'm glad you reached the decision you did, as I don't believe you would have enjoyed the trip/experience. Better to beg off and remain friends with "Aunt Katie" than go and be uncomfortable, and have people be rude to you for a week.

I'm in the group that thinks the 13 year old is unlikely to become harmed by this. The kid's probably seen the internet. Most likely been allowed to surf unattended. IMHO, that's "exposing" them to far more than a little subservience is going to do.
Besides, by 13 nowadays, they're half assed likely to have their own friggin' slave or Master.
However, in the end, it comes down to the fact that we, out here in internet land, have little or no right to judge this or tell someone what to do. The teen will be raised how he/she is raised, and that's not up to us.
