The thing with the scientific method is that experiments are done so that they can be replicated.

The church has been replicating the same experiments for over 2000 years.

If the same things happen over and over, then conclusions are drawn based on those observations, perhaps original hypotheses are reformed, then the experiment is performed again.

The church has had the same things happen over and over again and their conclusions are based on their own observations, their hypotheses (or doctrines) are formed and the they keep right on experimenting too.

It isn't something that just happened over night.  It's a collection of knowledge and observations that have been found to be consistent over time.

Science has their collection of knowledge and the church has theirs (the bible)

Sometimes, somebody finds out that one theory that's been held true for a while isn't exactly what we thought it was before, because  through technology or some other discovery, we were able to look at a thing in a way that we hadn't been able to see it before.

The church does this too, that's why there are over 38,000 Christian denominations in the world. (damn shame too)[:(]

science-religion  religion-science:  when we think about it, the two are not as different as each would like to think. We are all human and have our own beliefs and use what methods we have to prove what we believe. Its fine if people believe in God and its fine if they don't. Either way we all believe in something, so there is always common ground if we can each respect the others right to believe.

You don't believe in atoms?

I don't believe in much of what science teaches us as"fact"  and I am not the only one. Many people don't believe in the basic fundamentals of what science teaches us. I will save listing the christian and evangelical scientists that dispute it and focus on one of my most favorite and little know figures in science.

Ed Leedskalnin  believed that most of what science teaches us as fact; is actually incorrect.  http://coralcastle.com/  From 1923 to 1951, Ed single-handedly and secretly carved over 1,100 tons of coral rock, and his unknown process has created one of the world's most mysterious accomplishments......Scientists still cannot duplicate it or explain how he did it. So I'm inclined to believe he was correct when he says that science has it all wrong.  While he did believe in "atoms." His version of what they are and how they work was completely different from what science believes and teaches us.

Way off topic but the point is whether science or religion it still boils down to what the individual believes. There are theories on both sides and its ok for all of us to believe something different. Trust me, I am not trying to save your soul. [;)] One thing I totally agreed with Lance on, in the other thread was that the sun is going to rise whether one believes or not.

Just out of interest: if the atomic theory is a pile of crap, and there's no such thing as electrons, how does the computer you're using to write on here work, and how does it connect to the internet?

I re-read my post and I cannot find where I said it was a pile of crap.
Ask Al Gore how it works. [:D]

Sorry: I'd missed that you didn't share his disdain for the silly notion about atoms.

Yes.
I could, but I can see little point in bothering.
Any more stupid questions?

Sorry Jeffff but loud-mouthed bigoted religious zealots annoy me and I can't help but poke them...mea culpa, mea maxima culpa

Well I am glad you are the one doing the poking today. When I poke at brain, there are a couple of posters who get their panties all bunched up and tell me I am being mean to the poor boy.

I suppose it's ok as long as they don't have a girl and name her eggs.

Well, I suspect that you aren't quite up on "atomic theory" as you seem to believe.

That's ok.  You don't have to expose your ignorance any more.  I take it for granted anyway.

DarlingSavage -> RE: Christ Wasnt Crucified: Scholar (6/28/2010 8:01:10 AM)

What do you think protons and electrons are?  They're positively and negatively charged particles that orbit the atomic nucleus.  About the atom drawings, well, they were mainly trying to show the main idea of the particles that make up the atom.  I haven't read all of this, but so far, he only talks about what he thinks will happen or should happen, but he hasn't done any type of experiment that I can see that shows his hypothesis in action.  So far, it's just his thought processes on atomic structure.  And he does speculate that the protons and electrons are the polarized charges inside the atom.

That's why I can see no point explaining anything. You find it a lot easier to argue from ignorance, I've noticed.

LadyCimarron -> RE: Christ Wasnt Crucified: Scholar (6/28/2010 8:31:56 AM)

He disputed contemporary science and believed all matter consisted of magnets which could produce measurable phenomena and electricity. He actually did many experiments on Magnetic currents; the foundation for his theories.  He wrote about them, left detailed instructions and illustrations about how to duplicate them and even challenged lay people to reproduce them  People are still performing the very experiments he did and recorded. Modern science for the most part will not even acknowledge him and disregard the fact that they still cannot explain the coral castle. Here is one of his experiments reproduced.

We have gotten way off topic but my whole point in bringing it up, was that both science and religion are systems of beliefs and there are people on both sides who believe things that they cannot prove and both have evidence that some choose to accept or not accept. Bottom line: its ok for people to believe whatever they want to believe. No one has to convince someone else of a God and no one has to convince anyone else of the non-existence of it. Because in the end we all believe whatever we choose to believe.

DarlingSavage -> RE: Christ Wasnt Crucified: Scholar (6/28/2010 8:55:48 AM)

I'm sorry, but science is not a system of belief, it is a system for learning.

I know... that's what the church says about their doctrines too. ( I have bible verse for that, but at this point, I doubt you want to see it.).

Gee and I thought the electrons orbited the neutrons and protons[8|]

That's because the bible is a big fat lie.  I'd like to see this verse, however, the bible is not a system for learning, and I really doubt it to be the system of belief it claims itself to be.  I do think it was intended to be a means to oppress the masses and worked very well for the catholic church and the monarchies the church tried to rule over.

It's been a while since I had physics, so give me a break.  They're still negatively and positively charged particles and physics isn't my area of expertise.  I made a mistake, but it's all coming back to me, now.

I think Christ would have denounced symbolism of any kind, especially the adaption of pre-existing ancient symbols representing pagan beliefs to promote the corruption of his doctrine.

That's why they had to kill him off before the religion could get going properly.
