ORIGINAL: rulemylife No, you can take that as a go fuck yourself. I'm not taking the bait for your usual games. If you have a specific point to make then make it and I'll respond. My point is that you have less than a layman's understanding of history, and see everything through the prism of your own, current ideological blinders. You hear "KKK" and think of Grand Wizard Bubba Joe with his pickup truck, having a cross outside his trailer. You have no clue about the differences between that stereotype that you hold in your mind, and what the "KKK" was in the earlier part of the last century. That's my point: You are ignorant. And, as a corollary, you are an ideologue. Therefore everything you say and post is suspect, and slanted. Sorry Firm,I'm going to have to ask if you would be so kind as to point out to me (just a guy with a "layman's understanding of history"...and his very own prism).....What exactly was ever warm and fuzzy about the KKK ? What lofty goals and ambitions did they ever hope to achieve? I never said anything "warm and fuzzy" about the KKK. But the fact is, that the 2nd KKK was in many places a "progressive" organization, and in the first half of the last century, was seen by many in a much different light. There was obvious elements of racism in some places, but a significant percentage of the population in both the US and Canada were members, and not everyone who joined was a racist. As the darker side of the KKK came to the fore, most people who were members deserted it. As juliaoceania has said in the other Byrd thread: Byrd grew up in the South of 80 years ago. The KKK was the same as joining the Lions Club is in the North. Byrd grew up in a South that was not that far from the aftermath of the Civil War..... And she is exactly correct, except it wasn't just the South where this was true. And Byrd wasn't the only one who did what he did. Yet rulemylife will condemn any Republican, and forgive any Democrat in the same situation, under the same standards. That makes him an ideologue, and an person ignorant of history. Which is what I said, not something "warm and fuzzy" about the KKK. Firm
