MadameMarque -> RE: Is "kinky" becoming the new codeword for "crazy"? (7/8/2010 8:34:53 AM)

While it may be an interesting side panel, to wonder at how MissAsylum knows a couple of people of such extremes experiences, I really am surprised that the reaction here is to turn her question around on her and suggest that she's delusional or just lying. Some of you seemingly can't imagine it's possible that some people want to do dangerous, harmful, even horrific things, and call it their kink. I personal know of real life cases as extreme as those she's mentioned. And I suppose they can rightly call it their kink, as much as anyone with a more benign kink. You might want to use a more severe word for it, such as compulson or pathology - but their desire to do it is, I think, like the desire to do something milder. The difference is in lacking the conscience that prevents you from actually doing it. The question is, can they call it 'sane' or ethical or right? I've known people to make a case - whether anyone else agrees or not - for their right to make choices that others don't consider "sane." At the point that edge play starts looking over the edge - to put it euphemistically - , I'm probably more openminded than most. But if I were to find that someone had managed to harm someone I cared for, to an extent such as dismemberment, well, they would be very lucky if I didn't do something less than "sane," myself.
