haha! I picked out blushes but someone already had it. That's what the xx's are for. I've had it for so long now, I'm keeping it.

Crazyml is not bad. I do always wonder what ml stands for though.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 5:32:23 AM)

Mel.  That's what I call him in my head....Or if I'm thinking in Spanish - Mal...(I do so love the Mal boys!)

RDa -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 5:58:33 AM)

In connection with trying to get my profile visible I recently looked at the Male category in the search box.  I was astounded at the volume of nicks.  In just minutes mine had cycled down a half page worth.  New nicks were falling in like rain!  It's slower if you look at any Female category and MUCH slower in Female Switches.  Women on here face an utterly different reality from what men see.

And of course looking at the assortment of nicks I was moved to wonder how many responses some of these guys might be getting.  The women posting here seem to be pretty much in agreement about this matter, but then you'd expect people inclined to write down their thoughts in such a forum might tend toward a certain point of view.

I wonder if perhaps MasterBadAssSlutFkr has an enthusiastic following that we'll never be aware of here.

And dear ms blushes, you needn't be apologetic about being judgmental.  Who the hell would want a woman not capable of making judgments in these matters?

Aileen1968 -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 6:07:12 AM)

Names are definitely important. I would never have considered someone with any kind of reference to genitals or sexual acts in their nick.
There was a female poster here within the last few weeks that had lots of drama.
I personally thought that her screen name was the kind that would only attract wanker types...thus leading to a lot of the drama that she was experiencing. It was even recommended to her to find a new name. Don't know if she ever did or not as I haven't seen posting by her in a bit.

But, yeah...screen names are important to show who you are, how you see yourself (a very important detail to me), and what kind of people you will attract or repel.

My very first "boyfriend" was named Woody. [:)] At the time I was 6 and he was 8 and he told me I was his girlfriend. I found out years later that Woody was his given name and on his birth certificate.

I think the screen names that are picked reflect something about the person. There are those that are an automatic, "I don't think so".

xxblushesxx is not exactly the kind of user name you want to stand behind when you throw rocks at others for their user names.

I had an embarrassing nick on another site, chosen for me by Master, just for that reason.. something about cumslut.. and it did have an effect on how i was treated when i commented, or posted. i was allowed to change it eventually.

wpf0027 -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 8:56:21 AM)

I have found that after 5 years on this site I can pretty much judge a book by it's cover.  I can see a screen name and know what the pics on the profile will look like.  I can tell by the name if the profile is a fake.  I can usually tell if the person is a judgmental ass by the name as well. I have probably been wrong a few times but...       My nickname was picked for a reason but I bet people look at it and think I just typed some random letters and numbers.

LadyPact -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 9:17:30 AM)

Yes, a person's screen name does have an effect.  I'm unlikely to take something like aslut4u as someone who has anything serious to say unless it's specifically revolving around the desire to get laid.  The same goes for kink specific handles like scatluver.

Missokyst -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 9:59:35 AM)

I think I have only gotten one or two outrageous names who have emailed me in the past. Getdownandsuckmycock types are rare in my mailbox. I usually open mail regardless of name. But I do tend to ignore the ones that start with Master in the title, particularly if they start off by letting me know who will be in charge.

The ones i find particularly off-putting are the ones like "lifesucks"  or "depressedinuk" or "hatemylf"    -   if the nick owner is that depressed, why would any sane person want to be associated with them?

gungadin09 -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 10:25:23 AM)

i've noticed that i get taken much more seriously now that i've changed my name to gungadin. My old name used to be stupidcunt2suckU. Can't think why...

kitastrophe33 -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 10:46:21 AM)

Of course screen names have an effect. That's part of why we use them instead of some random user number or something. We want them to say something about us. What does "bigdick4u" suggest to me about the person? He has all the maturity of a 15 year old. He's not very creative. He probably doesn't often engage in intelligent conversation, and he may or may not (probably not) have a big dick.

Of course, all of those assumptions could totally be wrong. Maybe it's meant to be satirical, I don't know. But I have a hard time imagining the kind of confident, sexy, intelligent guy that would actually interest me paired with that name. And in reality, when (if) I read cmails from guys like that, the content rarely surprises or impresses me.

I love a thoughtful profile name, so yep, I won't even open mail from guys using names iwith iterations of 'bitch', 'sissy', 'boi', 'fuck', 'slut', etc.

But unless you were born in the year before 1970, the most puerile one is '69'. Dudes, what are you, twelve?

kitastrophe33 -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 11:25:17 AM)

DesFIP -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 11:44:09 AM)

Really vulgar nics would put me off. But I also recognize that not everyone is great with writing. Some people are a lot more hands on and not good at thinking things up.

I won't tell you the nic he had on b.com because it was sort of silly imo. But right now he's not on the forums chatting, he's out deciding if he should fix up a car or sell it for parts. So although he isn't the person I want to write letters for me (I proofread/edit his) he is the person I want to decide what needs to be done when the car isn't working.

My point is that the name may just be because he isn't a person with a strong grasp of writing. But that doesn't mean he isn't a top notch person with great math and engineering skills. We can't all be everything.

AQuietSimpleMan -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 11:49:59 AM)

My Favorite are the ones that elude to the idea that they are not good.

totalbitchsub
actslikeacunt
idontobey

Or the ones that let you know you'll be dealing with baggage.

worthelessmeat
stupidcunt
piece0shit

I see names like that and I go... Okay moving on.

UniqueRaven -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 12:00:06 PM)

i don't know, i've had some very thoughtful and nice messages from men with some really dodgy usernames. Sometimes i've even asked them about their name and they blushingly tell me that they thought it was simply expected to have something like that on a BDSM site.

i've also had some seriously awful messages - the sort that make you click the "block user" button before you even finish reading it - from men with perfectly reasonable usernames.

So for me, the username doesn't necessarily correlate with the quality of the message, and i don't immediately write someone off just because their username is DomSuxPussy69 or whatever.

i tend to go a bit more with what people say and the overall package they present, vs. just a single aspect like a username. In general, i do prefer men that show they've put thought into their whole online persona, which for me includes username, profile, and how they communicate with me (or on the forums), and sometimes if they have a skeevy username the rest of the package simply cancels it out.

Wow. i hope mine doesn't sound dodgy or fake, or like wierdness. i used to be called by a different username that did sound weird. Actually, at first glance, some usernames do sound like the person is just full of him- or herself, but i always read their mail anyway. Who knows, they might be nice people.....
