HisEvelyn -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 12:27:06 PM)

On the boards, I don't discriminate on names. I honestly don't often notice them unless the post itself really draws my eye. Though some of the names on here have become familiar to me as people whose opinion matters to me, because they've shown themselves to be intelligent and mature (even though most of them don't know I exist, lol).

As for messages I get in my mailbox, I admit to being a bit more guarded if the name is something obscene or weird, but I'll always read what is sent to me. A person is more likely to offend me with what they write to me, rather than what their username is.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 12:32:43 PM)

My nics everywhere but here have the word grouchy in them one way or tuther.

I know, unbelievable huh?

itsmeinLV -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 4:04:03 PM)

Haha, no need for me to elaborate at all because I totally agree with your point.  [:D]  Funny, but so true!

Arpig -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 4:28:01 PM)

I tend to regard anybody who uses Master/Sir/Lord in their nic as too full of them selves to be taken seriously, and since I mostly hang in P&R I whenever I see a nick with a "cuck" in it I assume another batshit right-winger[:D]

Apocalypso -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 4:41:33 PM)

I won't speak to anyone with an annoying username.  And I have a broad definition of "annoying".  Because I'm a Grinch.

Gawd, A.  This from a man with 'pig' in his screen nic?!  Now, I know full well that you're anything but a pig, but the words ' glass houses' and 'throwing stones' spring to mind!

Arpig -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 4:45:57 PM)

Well I clearly don't have an over-inflated sense of my own worth now do I[:D]

MissBeautiful2U -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 4:57:41 PM)

Your name is the first impression someone gets of you when you write.  Some people's names reference certain acts that I have zero interest in.  I assume that if that activity is important enough for them to use as a username, then it would not be a good match.  Similarly when someone has a weak or strong name, I start with an impression of them.

I do generally open all messages that I receive, but the impression has started.  If it is followed by a one liner that goes something along the lines of "Goddess please except this worthless slave..." (spelling error was intentional) it gets deleted without even a no thanks.

domiguy -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 5:00:19 PM)

I fell in love with torngapinganus4u.....she died in the great CM fire of aught 4.

Names matter. A sane letter from a poster with an insane name can smooth things over.

But it does mater.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 5:15:56 PM)

That's beautiful domi. Thank you so much for sharing.

I agree.  DG so often makes Keats and Wordsworth look like uncouth yahoos who are devoid of all sensitivity and finer feelings.

~FR~
i know this isn't a username, but i knew Someone who called Himself "Lord Master Owner Sir." i always thought that was more than a little redundant. [8|]

I am prejudiced against such names as sternmaster, SternSir, PainMaster, StrictAsshole4u[:D]

I know there are people who seek stern, strict, mean mutha fuckas.... I am just not one of them. I want someone who is TOLERANT because I tend to fuck up sometimes no matter how hard I try, and being punished isn't high on my list at 42 years old

lizi -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 6:38:20 PM)

I definitely filter out possible partners based on their usernames...after all people choose their names so they must feel it represents them somehow. I reject anyone with a sexual name as being incompatible with me since I'm looking for more than that. Sex is great but I'd like to be with someone I can talk to when the boinking is done. I'm also not interested in someone with an UberDom nic...it's the well rounded thing again. If a guy identifies that strongly with one part of himself that he's got to broadcast it as the first thing he wants others to know, then he's too one-dimensional to be a good match with me. I want more than a penis or sex and more than just a Dom or Master...I want a whole man.

I would have to agree that anyone with 69 in their nickname just causes my eyes to roll...that is just the epitome of dorkiness. Honestly...we're all adults on here and that is the best thing you could come up with? Like who HASN'T done that...geez. That's like advertising yourself as being able to ride a bike with training wheels [:-]

Fluke -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 6:38:56 PM)

Well, I'm just pretty darned pleased that I got hold of "my" name on here, without having to get creative with characters and numbers.
It's been with me for near on 10 years, and I swear that if someone said it out loud I'd react to it as I would to my given name.
I've heard the fish jokes, I've heard the parasitic flatworm jokes, I've heard the electrician tool jokes, people have asked me about the band, etc. etc...

But yeah, I do judge people by their screen names, it's no different than your average first impression, just in a different form.
I've been around enough to know that first impressions isn't all, but it DOES have a strong impact regardless, one that affects your desire to further interact or not....

Awww my dear Brioni clad gentleman...I'm certain they aren't referring to you. I mean, your id serves a purpose, as it does appear that you are in need of some "head"[:)]

Jeffff -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/11/2010 7:04:31 PM)

I think names should be no longer than 6 letters.

I think anytime that repeats a letter more than 4 times is a bad name.
