Possibly, I should consider changing my name to something like "SillymarriedOldFart" which is perhaps accurate and may even stop those winsome nubile females from the Middle East and other areas constantly not reading my profile but begging me to accept them as my loving slave for life and ideal sex toy to use how I will.....

I'll write you and mess with your stats. Then you'll have a young nubile American perving you from afar. That's equal opportunity harassment. [:D]

DomImus -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/13/2010 6:45:16 PM)

In private correspondence it might affect me a little. In the forums not so much. There are quite a few regulars in the forums with very benign screen names who are just flaming assholes.

Fnordstrum -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/14/2010 9:20:53 AM)

It doesn't effect how I view their posts, to be honest I don't even pay a lot of attention to the names attached to posts anyway.

As far as messages go, if someone with a username along those lines messaged me, I would be willing to take them seriously/etc, but, it would take more of an effort on their part for me to do so than someone with a more 'normal'-ish name.

Fnord.

My Favorite are the ones that elude to the idea that they are not good.

totalbitchsub

Or the ones that let you know you'll be dealing with baggage.

I see names like that and I go... Okay moving on.

Yeah, those names can mean subs with issues but both of these types can also be fetishists looking to get their SAM or degradation needs met. They are a kind of hanky code to some people.

Here because I am originally from Yosemite, I was thinking "Yosemite Sam" might suit me, even though I am not really a sam....

I think you dont need to be a sam, you could be yosemitepark, you are interesting, pretty and untamed as that National Park!

What a place to be born, cool!

NuevaVida -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/14/2010 9:13:27 PM)

I don't hang out much on the other side, and I ignore any solicitation email at this point, but in the past yes, I was put off by degrading names, overly sexual names, and even Master/Lord/Sir names.

And then Mr. Man sent me this really nice email, and his nic started with Master so I asked him about it.  His name came from a biblical quote that was quoted in one of his favorite movies, "Shawshank Redemption" and I thought that was pretty cool.

Admittedly, a nic will also affect how I view posts on this side, as well - not hugely, but to a small degree.  If I'm reading a post from "ImaPiece-o-Shit" I'd probably ask myself what I might gain from a piece of shit.  I'll still read it, but I might be more skeptical about it at first.

That is the nicest compliment I have had in a long while...

I wasn't born there, but I grew up bordering the Park and my dad was raised inside it

Far out! Cool Pops! You rock juliayosemite!

Ayamuz -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/15/2010 4:49:06 PM)

So after reading these posts I assume that a guy with overly sexualized names, and redundantly naming themselves in regards to their orientation, are less likely to do well with most ladies, though I did not notice too much on if that is the case for women as well, if their name has sub, domme, Some sexual activity, etc... actually do better or worse in hay regard, also I didn't notice anything on the maleXmale and femaleXfemale perspective, though that might just be me not noticing.
Also in regards to names like mine, it being a name and a clever or pithy description, are seen as boring or uninteresting, I had chosen it as a neutral kink name that relates to my own name.

Ok, so I just got an email from domlongschlong (names have been slightly changed to protect the clueless)

I remember that he has cmailed me before because it's an...interesting name.

Interesting but...off putting, at least for me.

So, when you see a nic called fuckpuppy or domwithdick (both made up but could be real) does that change your perception of the person at all? Do you consider someone with a name like that, or is that a deal breaker? For me it is a deal breaker as far as dating goes.

I'm sure I may have turned down some interesting partners because of it, but I want someone a bit more subtle.

I don't want/need to see your cock until I'm interested in you. I don't want/need to think of you as slutbitch unless you are MY slutbitch and I gave that name to you because you are special to me. [:-]

Also, does it change the way you view their posts? If sucksalotofcock is posting in politics and religion, it's possible I would pass right by that post just due to the nic. Otoh, if domwithcookies posted there, I might engage because I would think that showed a sense of humour, and a willingness not to take one's self so seriously.

So is there a difference between putting yourself out there as just a vagina or cock and an ironic sense of humour?

I know this is a bit judgmental, but it is honest, and I am curious about others' thoughts on this subject.

I thought I was the only one who got creeped out my someone's lack of class or tact.
The ones that REALLY creep me out are the "oral 4 U" ones and I totally agree with you about the "slut" ones.

If a man is calling himself  a "slut", you're right...He is not a "slut" until I say so.
What also gets me going is "your" for "YOU ARE"...instead of you're.

you define whether or not he is a slut?  I'm pretty sure if he's sleeping around, he's a slut.

I'm not keen on that either.  I don't have the same high level of negativity I have to "cocksucker69" or "dirtywhore4u", but I do think it shows a certain lack of originality or imagination.  Unless the rest of the name makes up for it.  (I would happily talk to anyone called SubMariner or DominictheDomleyDominant).

While I don't personally get what you're referencing, your name seems fine to me.  It's just neutral and would neither draw me in nor put me off.  Which is obviously where the profile comes in.

One thing we can agree on is that Yosemite is awesome.

Anyway....what do people think of my screen name?

I love your screen name.

To answer the OP, weird sexually explicit screen names are amusing to laugh at, but I never respond to mail from someone with one. I always read the mail though, since there is enough of a masochist in me to be intrigued by what they might have to say.

Ayamuz -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/16/2010 9:21:06 AM)

To: Apocalypso
sorry I mention to say "it is a name, not a clever or pithy description" writing on a mobile device is not the best

As far as the thread goes I haven't really seen a lot of intensely sexual names, though I am searching for women so that probably has something to do with it, but I do prefer to look at at the profile and interests first and their name second, though I would be suspicious of someone calling themselves "CumguzzlingSlut4U69" or the like[:D]

IronBear -> RE: Screen names and their effect (7/16/2010 11:04:09 AM)

When asked recently, I suggested to the Dominant asking me if I knew a good name for his new slave, I recommended "Vegemite". Of course it has been used to praise some person like "Your a good little Vegemite" and the ancient black and with TV adds with kids singing "We're happy little Vegemite........" Still the inference would possibly be lost on those non Australians or those not familiarly with our cultural dietary and food habits.. Still 'tis a neutral name with no overt sexual or bizarre connotations..
