I wonder if I went to Switzerland got a 13 year old girl drunk then raped her if I could walk away free?

Yes I know the 1977 sentence was only for 90 days… they should have that judges head too. Sometimes the mentality of European authorities in general is sickening.

If I were the dad I’d take out a loan and hire some thugs to hit him in the head and smuggle him back to the US where we punish child molesters.

Status: offline 		What I get from this is: man has sex with 13 year old in nation with 16 age of consent, is sentenced....serves sentence. Is now free. Americans want to lock him up for a further 48 days after changing their mind about the sentence. Swiss refuse on the grounds that he's already served his sentence.

It seems much ado about nothing to me.

The bolded part adds more to the dynamic.... carrying much more weight than it should ever have.

The Swiss said.. prove it. The US declined to send the "confidential" transcript the Swiss demanded. The Swiss shrugged and let him go. They made no declaration of his innocence or guilt, even admitting they "did not know".

That depends on how you want to interpret it.

The judge sent him for a psychiatric evaluation.  The doctors determined the evaluation was complete. An evaluation is not a sentence.

Regardless, is this really worth the resources and effort?

Even if you want to agree with the judge and say it was a sentence, is it really worth 33 years to pursue the man for missing 48 days out of 90?

Status: offline 		hmmm...maybe you have a 13 year old relative I can get drunk then rape...I'll serve 48 days with a psych evaluation. I'm saying the judge was wrong but if he was not crazy then he should have been tried for child molestation... That was the purpose of the evaluation… not the final term of the sentence. For a third country to deny justice is crap...it only encourages this behavior.

You and I both know his behavior would not be tolerated in their countries and they should honor our requests.

He also never had permission to leave and did NOT serve his sentence, because he was famous he was free to walk away after leaving the Psychiatric Center.

That being said I would just like the same kind of unstopping vigilence for Justice when the name of the criminal is Bob Johnson.

It just seems to me more people are up in arms because his name is Roman Polanski.

Children are raped, and murdered every day. I have never once seen as much press about any one of them.

Status: offline 		Nor anyone coming out in support of a child rapist. Guess money and power really do talk. It takes quite a "man" to hide behind his wife's death while dealing with raping a 13 year old. Yet people just "love" his movies and support the perv everytime they go see one.

I'm not defending him, he should have stayed and fought if as he and his attorney said the judge went back on his word, which there seems to be evidence of. 

Maybe you should ask yourself why you think this warrants the extraordinary efforts to extradite him.

He was sentenced to 90 days and ordered a psych evaluation. In any other case, once the evaluation was complete, they go back to court to the Judge. Now, show me where in any ruling the Judge said he could skip that last process?

He had sex with a teenager, not a child....he is not a pedophile the way that term is defined by the DSM-IV....

We have actual child predators in THIS country that we could be investigating with the money being spent on this guy. This is a waste of resources.

Now I am for the current age of consent, and I am for prosecuting people who have sex with teenagers, but by the same token, when I hear people call a sex crime against a teen "child sex crime", well it isn't... I think it muddies the water when we look at sex crimes committed against the prepubescent.

13 is pedophiliac.

I don't care what you say, you may want to look at pictures of what she looked like at 13 and what he looked like at 13 and then tell me you honestly still think what he did isn't pedophiliac.

Age is subjective when it comes to development.... and in 1970 the Hoochie Mamma of the year 2010 is a far cry different from one another.

The DSM-IV is good for so many things... I really think it gets some very wrong, or at least only half right.
