I think the issue mostly is that enough parents are so shitty that a good portion of the rest feel a need for kindergartners to be apprised of sexual issues.

My "issue" Domyngblk is that first of all kindergarten is NOT the place to teach sex education much less homosexuality. Am I to assume that you agree with Obama?

My issue is that if you choose to teach your children about sexuality before your children have even entered into regular grades...hell, before they've even entered double digits on their age...that is your choice as their parents.  I don't agree with it but they're not MY kids.  However, I do have an issue with being asked to spend my money on something for my kids that I don't want my kids ...within the next 3 yrs, my grandkid... exposed to at that age.

IF the material was to be taught in an age appropriate (not morally but brain maturity and ability to understand) manner..........I certainly would have no problem with it. My kids were asking questions, and getting those questions answered correctly, by that age.

All the school district wants to teach kindergartners are what the names of all the body parts are. If someone thinks a 5 year old will be permanently traumatized by the words penis and vagina then you have to wonder why they aren't traumatized by the word finger!

5 years old(thats around the age for kindergarden...right?) is a bit young to be teaching sex ed, but i hear of kids losing their virginity ate ages 11 and 12, so it may be at that point a few years from now. i hope not though.

I didn't have time to do more than skim the plan but it seems to do this in order to teach kindergartners what inappropriate touching is.  It's sad that this is considered necessary.

What the hell would Obama be doing on some plan that is focused on Montana schools, anyway?

I smell a fish.

The last time we heard this BS,cons were telling us that education to protect UMs from pedophiles, was "sex education".

Now why in the world would anyone not want their kids educated (age appropriate)about this very real danger? Cons took an important issue and poisoned the debate.Put UMs and sex in the same sentence and some people`s heads explode..

Is a parent`s want to maintain a fantasy about childhood innocents worth keeping them ignorant to the dangers?

And usually,any education about homosexuality is about tolerance.Not homosexual sex.

I`m betting the OP and this issue is bullshit,spun from something not at all inappropriate or out of the norm.

you really have to consider how functional a 5 year old is. That is when you learn to count- ABCs, say please, take your turn, share,

the idea only stirs the pot.   When I was in Americore - we did a presentation on peer pressure/diversity  designed for the 6 graders.    Even that was dicey.    We barely had permission.   Even at that - we could not talk about sex oreination.   I got mad -  finally it was resolved that IF asked the matter could be referred to a counselor.    Once that was in place- I was ok with it.....  BTW the question did NOT come up- and we hit all school in our county.

I think young children should be taught that no other child should touch their private areas and that no adult should touch a child's private areas unless it's for cleaning purposes (parents or babysitters bathing baby brother or sister or changing their diapers). Any education beyond that should wait until the child is older.

They are trying to come up with a way to teach responsibility and to teach children what they should not be afraid to report, such as inappropriate touching. 

It also includes teaching about mental illness and how it can be treated, and other forms of acceptance for people different than "us".

What I read in the pdf indicates totally appropriate lessons for all grade levels, to me anyhow.  School systems can't do right no matter what, so I applaud them for trying at least, to educate with a message other than "just don't do it".

Some parents will protest, and I am sure they can stop their kids from being included in the part of the day that teaches these things.  Hell, one of my fav kids, kind as heck, straight a's, breaks my heart sometimes because of the "teachings" of her mom.  She saw me reading an article about Ellen and said "You shouldn't read that, she is evil and gross!"  I asked what she meant and she whispered to me "She is gay."

I said ah heck babe, that doesn't make her a bad person, and besides she is funny as heck and dances well.  The look in her face was one of confusion, and I expected to have her mom come get on to me later.  Mom didn't, and if she had I don't know what I would have said.

What was the question again?

For fucksake PA!! You really need to spend more time around kids if you believe that!

My grandson's, ages 6 and 7 just recently, could teach you a lot. They learned counting, alphabet, and manners, quite a few years ago. Trust me, they know what sex is and several different variants. Adults just do not give kids enough credit.

Yeah some parents teach their children wrong when it comes to sex ed. When I was 10, I saw a neighbor kid a year younger than me put two naked barbies together so "Ken and Barbie could have sex and Ken could pee in Barbie." I asked who told her that and she said her mother did. I'm all for sex education in school, but 5 is too young for anything other than education about inappropriate touching.

That is based upon your morality. And what that kid did probably had nothing to do with what his parents taught him but more to do with what they didn't teach him but other kids did.

The cold hard facts are this.........too many parents refuse to teach their children ANYTHING about sex and their bodies. What those parents fail to think about is that kids will learn about sex from other kids.....GUARANTEED!

I would prefer children learn correct facts rather than half (at best) truth bullshit from other kids.

The problem is this quote from your link:

The idea that children of that age are innocent and incapable of sexual thoughts or feelings is not accurate.
