I will merely refer you to the history of the Institutum Divi Thomae as a starting point on how nuns can, are, and have been accomplished research scientists--thus rendering your distinction between the two absurd.

To build upon that false distinction into a diatribe positing "science" as inherently at odds with "religion" is mundane. Further commentary on that is not warranted.
