"Politics ain't beanbag" I fully agree he's in the hotseat; what President isn't? I think the most dangerous thing he can do to himself is allow the perception of racial bias. He really is Caesars wife, and this NBP thing has the possibility of Reaaaalllllly blowing up on him. Black President, black DOJ, black defedants getting a pass just because they are black.... I think anyone can see how that plays into every subconcious racial fear any white person in America ever had.

He cannot afford any more of these cases that tarnish his "postracial" halo.

Hello Violet,

IMO, the major reasons we are seeing such an increase in US racial tensions are the social, economic and psychological costs of 2 long term foreign wars and the continued economic recession. When people feel insecure, threatened and watch their family, friends and neighbors loose jobs, businesses, homes and health care they become increasingly desperate. In such times a scapegoat or villian is very convenient. Civility is cast aside in favor of anger and blame and selfishness.

You know what the whole finger pointing "racist!" thing reminds me of?

"Class warfare!"

Every time someone tried to raise the issue of income inequity and the disappearance of the middle class, or the dramatic concentration of income of the wealthiest people fruing the last administration, the cry of "Class warfare!" went out.  Just like the cries of "Political Correctness!", it just stops any discussion in its tracks.

Which gets back to the huge problem of economic uncertainty for millions of Americans.

To me it seems like Obama's in a bad situation.  If he wades into race situations, then he'll be seen as pandering to blacks.  If he stays far away, then he's "inflaming racial tensions."  So where's the middle line?

I agree, he is trapped between the devil and the deep blue sea.

I don't think there's anything he can do to improve the opinions of the ones who refer to him always as Barack HUSSEIN Obama, call him "The Kenyan", etc.  He's screwed six ways from Sunday.

Too true, people who are that entrenched in their world view are not open to new dialogue or change.

I wonder if race relations are actually being 'damaged' or if tension is just being brought to the surface.

If race relations were in good shape to begin with none of those things would have been so explosive.

Good point but I think the economy has a lot to do with it. When things are bad even family members might duke it out.

What you said there is very true, but I also think that there are people who are all too eager to capitalize on that desperation for political ends.  I think that it is exactly because of the reasons you stated that some in the media are willing to provide said scapegoat.  In this case, minorities under the new president.  Rush Limbaugh, for example, reported on a story where black kids beat up a white kid and closed with "This is Obama's America."

Too bad you pulled the quote out of context, and that wasnt even close to his close.

He was commenting on the fallacy that Obama would bring a post-racial America.

VioletGray -> RE: The role of race in conservative media (8/2/2010 6:37:17 PM)

Willbe, please explain to me how that is out of context? Seriously, I'm not above being enlightened :-)

I already did. It was the middle of a long discussion about the fallacy of Obama's election heralding a post-racial America.

He was not saying, as you imply in your post, that Obama's election was the cause of the incident on the bus, but that the election did nothing to change or ease racial tensions.

I'm sorry, that's just not true.

If what Rush said carried no implications of a sort of racial role-reversal for you then you are seriously deluding yourself.

The transcripts of the piece are on Rush Limbaugh's page, the link is here:

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_091509/content/01125106.guest.html

I invite anyone paying attention to read that page and form your own opinions, I think his own words more than prove my point for me.

Owner59 -> RE: The role of race in conservative media (8/2/2010 7:41:24 PM)

The only ones declaring a post racial America b/c of Obama`s election, were cons.

One example.......cons calling for an end to NAACP,the Congressional Black Caucus etc. because obviously,we`re past needing such things now.

They've proved themselves wrong,haven`t they?

[:D]

Every thinking person knows that that premise is bullshit.

You would fire anyone that does not share your ideology....Were the two people that you fired for voting for Obama, black?

domiguy -> RE: The role of race in conservative media (8/2/2010 7:57:01 PM)

If you argue with wilbur, sanity or truckinslave you are arguing with someone that has made it clear from their posts that they have no regard for the truth and the truth will never stand in their way when it comes to formulating their opinion.

They will utilize any and every source available to them that will support their distorted and warped political ideology.

It has been proven countless times as their posts expose them for what they are. They tend to be extremely dishonest as they continue to utilize questionable and ridiculous sources that are soon enough and far too often discovered to be outright lies.

They never admit to being wrong and even in the face of being shown the error of their posts and their false statements, they choose to continue to follow the same backhanded and loathsome paths.

In the thread I referenced above, the OP wanted to know "... can we stop with the boogie man, communist, nazi nonsense long enough to maybe discuss the issues? ".

The left leaning members of the forum initially turned it into a joke thread, and it wasn't until the 6th page that I decided to point out the fact that it was the left that was refusing to take it seriously.  For the next couple of pages, I had a reasonable discussion with a few posters, but the old lefty tactics came out again in force, and they demonstrated the very same childish, insulting, belittling behavior of which I pointed out that they were guilty .

That's what the left does

Speaking for myself, I'm tired of being tagged with this universal "left", just because I disagree with conservatives on the boards.

Uh huh.  You think leftists don't walk away from debates around here?  Or would that make them "losers" or "clueless" or "not smart enough to continue"?  I frequently walk away from debates here when it becomes pointless, just like I did with RealOne.

That, is the wall of ignorance and bad faith acting that not just the left but Americans face.

That guy,is the leading voice of the far right that every GOP leader seems to salve and that every neo-con regurgitates here.

it is exactly what I said it was. If you arent a Rush listener you might not pick up his sarcasm in the written word, or you are just too biased to hear it.

Seems quite clearly to me that he is implying that this is obama's country now and he is responsible for incidents like these because of some action or policy of his.

I listened to his show once many years ago. Just scanning the channels. And I was listening up until he made a statement calling people in the middle east savages, referring to the way they treat each other. Which he seemed to imply gave us hand to do whatever we wanted to them. Made me think of early colonist and how they said the same thing about indians.
