ORIGINAL: Vendaval Hello Violet, IMO, the major reasons we are seeing such an increase in US racial tensions are the social, economic and psychological costs of 2 long term foreign wars and the continued economic recession. When people feel insecure, threatened and watch their family, friends and neighbors loose jobs, businesses, homes and health care they become increasingly desperate. In such times a scapegoat or villian is very convenient. Civility is cast aside in favor of anger and blame and selfishness. What you said there is very true, but I also think that there are people who are all too eager to capitalize on that desperation for political ends. I think that it is exactly because of the reasons you stated that some in the media are willing to provide said scapegoat. In this case, minorities under the new president. Rush Limbaugh, for example, reported on a story where black kids beat up a white kid and closed with "This is Obama's America." Too bad you pulled the quote out of context, and that wasnt even close to his close. He was commenting on the fallacy that Obama would bring a post-racial America.
