In the USA you go private or you get NOTHING.

Wrong.

Oh don't be such a tit, we're obviously talking about people who fall outside of the limited care offered over there, that's the whole point of debating universal healthcare. The point stands, for any argument based on mentioning the NHS to work, the NHS would have to be worse than doing nothing...because the USA does not have a universal healthcare system.

In my experience (and I've been diabetic for thirteen years, which means I'd be paying sixty quid for a box of glucometer testing strips on your side of the pond) the NHS works fine. It'd work a lot better if thirty years of monetarists hadn't cut its funding every budget, but it still does a remarkably good job with the money it gets. If it was funded properly again, it would badly show up most of the systems they have in mainland Europe at the moment. Mind you, at the same time as that happened, the DWP would probably be providing unemployed submissives with a free dominant at the taxpayer's expense, so don't hold your breath...

Self responsibility for ones own health can also include letting your body turn to shit, smoking, drinking, never exercising....but being willing to pay for the consequences yourself, not looking for a a redistribution of income to cover it for you.

Yes indeed, thats my whole point, anyone can use it as we have all paid in via the income tax system at some point or other. Those on hard times STILL get to use the NHS. I am glad you are starting to take in the free lessons I am giving you. It`s okay though, you can thank me later.

Too bad youre too stupid to get my point.

You started it, effendi. Is calling somebody stupid part of a polite debate where you come from, or are you just the sort of wuss who picks fights on the internet because you know nobody's going to beat the shit out of you for offending them there?

Isn't it funny how some of those who scream the loudest about name calling and mud slinging are the biggest offenders.

There's an extension to the rule 'if you're arguing on the internet: you're all wrong', which states that at the point the debate degenerates into both sides calling the other stupid, the situation reverses, and everyone is now correct. In this case I suspect willbe has enough idiocy for all of us.

I thought it was "Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics: even if you win, you're still retarded", but I'm sure there's a fair few versions doing the rounds.
(Fair point about the other, though.)

I still dont see any posts backing up claims about NHS death squads, not that I expected to.

The whole OP is just, as was pointed out, some right wing blogg. That was a case of throw enough mud and some will stick, true or otherwise.

Ever been to a NP? Do you even know what they are?

I accepted it once when I had a very nasty sore throat which didnt make it possible to eat anything, even plain water hurt like mad...all I got from their "great" nurse practitioner was nasty attitude, as she was far more interested to push me into attending a smear test (which I don't need to do as I had one in recent years back home) then in my cold. She examined my throat with a huge desk between us (not like the GP who I visited a week or 9 days later who properly looked into my throat with pushing the tounge down) and made insulting comments such as "you are after antibiotics, aren't you?" and "I am writing down that I am going to prescribe you antibiotics despite no medical evidence for it." I am not keen on fucking antibiotics but I am keen in that moment to get rid of my damn pain..

Once she gave me the prescription she continued with her patronising attitude "now go straight to the receptionist to make an appointment for (her desired) test."

Well, I left, but all I went to was their toilet and then I went home. That great nurse practitioner is toast to me, as she couldn't have cared less about what I was here for (and as I was about to go to canada for four weeks during cold december/january I was more than desperate to get 100% well again) and her only interest was to push me into what she was bothered about where I was told on placement a few days later, that this probably was as they get paid £25 or so for every patient who does her favourite topic test.

I went back to there 7 or 9 days later as my throat didn't get much better (so much about "no medical evidence for it" *snort*) and that GP prescribed again antibiotics as she did see how read my throat was...

Since then...my opinion about registered nurses...thanks...but no thanks. Certainly not that bitch in practice.

Back home in Germany I never came accross a "nurse practitioner" and also from that background I prefer that people stick to the professions they are qualified for...and a nurse practitioner is not qualified enough for me to do similar work than what the GP does. Over here nurses do many stuff nurses back home don't do and I couldn't agree less with that practice.

It is what???

Whilst I do agree that it is better than no healthcare for many citicens, I think it is quite insuling to call the nhs excellent...so of course all press articles about the poor treatment in the NHS are entirely false and wrong, right

Thanks for sharing PTIB,

After reading the links, I will re-double my efforts to die at home, not in a hospital!

When I get really old, the way its going, I will just have to get prescriptions for a lot of medical marijuana, oxygen, "my nerve/happy pills" and "pain pills".
At least I can go out happy.

"so of course all press articles about the poor treatment in the NHS are entirely false and wrong."

Generally, yes.

From a polling perspective, I don't have the numbers to hand...but there're vast gaps between
How people percieve the NHS in general (poorly)
How people percieve their local NHS (well)
How people who've used their NHS recently percieve it (excellently)

This is true across the nation, there are no 'bad spots'....so where are the crappy hospitals people think of when they say the NHS is generally poor?....they're in the newspapers, in political speeches.

The last time the WHO tried to produce international comparisons of healthcare was in 2000, with the UK coming 18th out of 190, Japan being the only country deemed to provide better care that wasn't spending considerably more/GDP....and that was on late 90s data, when the NHS was in a relative trough....generally agreed that the NHS has improved since then disproportionately to general global improvements...despite GDP health spending still remaining notably lower than all our 'competitors' (for want of a better word) save Japan.

Taking into account cultural differences (which can be illustrated to some extent by comparing our overall life expectancy with it disability adjusted (IIRC~25th highest vs ~10th highest), and by glancing at Glasweigan data)....yes, I do think the NHS is excellent...and I do think most of the news media stories are bollocks.

it is intresting, every subject that is brought up for discussion has distinct simularities.

those on the left OFTEN ;(not always and sometimes people on the right do it) respond in one of 3 ways. when they can't counter a fact. 1) they choose to attack a persons spelling or grammer.
or 2) they repeat what is said as if u were too stupid to realize what u should have said
or 3) they call u stupid (or worse)

I have noticed this not just on the message boards, I see it in the news, I see it on c-spand, I hear it on the politico shows. The left will resort to demonizing anyone who disagrees with them. ocassionally going so far as wishing death on people!

point in fact I have been called stupid, had My words repeated almost verbatem but with the implication I was saying something different, I have had my spelling and gramer errors pointed out. all by people who don't know me, they only don't like what I have to say.

maybe they are insecure, maybe that's why they want the government to take care of them....

You can add another lie to the no taxes on middle class. If its been mentioned already, sorry. There is a stealth tax in the healthcare bill that will impact the middle class the hardest....a home equity tax. If you sell your home and have equity in it (even if you lost money on it!) there is a 3.8% tax on your equity. The exclusion is 250k/500k. Thats the home/condo of just about every middle class Californian nearing retirement age.

Who would have thought that those of us considered taboo by the mainstream would still prefer to deride each other than discuss things as a group.
Not much here for me perhaps? Is the rest of the site like this?
Of all forums on the internet I would have thought this one might be different. Yeah I know, cry me a river...

Enjoy!

What, only ten?

As for Nurse Practitioners I see one when my Doctor isn't in the office and she does a great job! Small fingers too!
Also, I see one in the V.A. system and she does a great job as well!
Also one of my Coast Guard buddy's wives is an N.P. and she's supersmart! Halfway through to getting her Ph.D in Nursing and then she can head a nursing school. No complaints with N.P.'s!

Hans, just try to ignore the Leftists like most in here do. Or, just humor them.
