You can add another lie to the no taxes on middle class. If its been mentioned already, sorry. There is a stealth tax in the healthcare bill that will impact the middle class the hardest....a home equity tax. If you sell your home and have equity in it (even if you lost money on it!) there is a 3.8% tax on your equity. The exclusion is 250k/500k. Thats the home/condo of just about every middle class Californian nearing retirement age.

Please quote this because wilbur has placed me on block as he cannot stand to have any of his posts or thoughts questioned.

This is just another lie put out by a guy that has no regard for the truth.

Moderators, why can't we attack this guy? This guy does nothing but fabricate stories and posts any and every unverified falsehood that furthers his warped and twisted ideology.

If you can moderate someone for personal attacks what about moderating someone for being a liar?

How does this guy further a conversation or add a single idea if everything that he spews out is a lie?

Please wilbur, please!!! I implore you to find the source for your latest piece of shit post and make it available for all of the stupid people to read.

There is no tax as wilbur has described. Judging from "his posts" it is apparent that wilbur has some sort of an inability to understand what he is reading or discern what is a reliable source compared to that which is not.

Please wilbur, expose your posts for what they are....complete lies and fabrications.

have the dignity to do it yourself and admit that you were wrong....

If anyone needs help just google "3.8% tax on home sales."

Obviously wilbur has not the ability nor the desire to unearth the truth.

I hate wilbur's posts. I love wilbur as a human being....lol.

Attack the post not the poster.

You are our nosey next door neighbor that knocks on our door, runs away and leaves pamphlets about joining some atheist support group.

What about attacking wilbur? It's just not fair. He is so ripe for dismantling.

Come on brainy you know you want to. The short bus is in the left lane going thirty miles an hour on the expressway. No flashers or signals. You are going to crash into the bus and then you will end up getting rear ended.....(enter joke here)

Take your swipe, tear out your 3.8 pounds of flesh. wilbur is floundering on the rocks like a beached whale gasping for air from his enormous and decrepid blowhole.

I implore the moderators to let us put him out of our misery.

(sharpens harpoon awaiting the "thumbs down" signal from our great and noble overlords)

For Christ sakes, man, is there not a humane person amongst any of you?

I've told you a million times...it's not a support group. It's a social group.

I like Wilbur. Tomorrow after a good night's rest, I am going to politely respond to him in "The Limits of Reason" thread.

I think he was repeatedly called an idiot earlier in the thread. That probably counts as a personal attack. Or do we have to make fun of his weight? (in my mind, against UHC=obese...not sure why, but there it is)

I have no clue what they teach on your side of the pond. I worked with an english nurse who was supposed to be a great NP and Midwife. My assessment of her quickly changed after she left an aborted (spontaneous) fetus in the sink of an exam room for hours.

On this side, i have worked with many who were compassionate and caring. And as far as their educational experience goes... Odd how many people accept a Physicians Assistant before a Nurse Practioner.

"so of course all press articles about the poor treatment in the NHS are entirely false and wrong."

Generally, yes.

and of course research which shows that the UK is a lot behind as it showed for example on this research below is wrong as well

My-o-my-o-my, some people truly enjoy living in their bubble of denial *snort*

quote:

2.2 Perinatal mortality
The perinatal mortality rate measures foetal deaths plus early neonatal deaths (until one
week of age) per 1,000 births (live and stillbirths). The UK’s perinatal mortality rate is
30 per cent higher than the EU average – second worst in the EU, ahead only of Greece.
The UK is the only EU country in which this rate increased during the 1990s. Germany’s
perinatal mortality rate is 40 per cent below the EU average, second best after Finland.
The UK’s perinatal mortality is more than twice as high as Germany’s (all data for 1999).
However, the UK’s death rate from external causes (mainly injuries and poisoning) in
children under 14 is among the lowest in the EU (around 25 per cent lower than both the
EU average and the German figure).
2.3 Older people
A similar picture emerges for older people. In 1990 further life expectancy having reached
age 65 was 16.4 years in both countries. But by 1999 this had improved by 1.5 years in
Germany – the greatest improvement of any EU country – but only by 0.8 years in the UK,
where it is now the third lowest in the EU (see Figure 5).
Again, this difference is mainly due to the considerably worse situation of British women,
but life expectancy of older German men is now also higher than that of their British
counterparts – see Figures 6 and 7.

Chill dude.

Three points.....

There are many many facts & figures that come under 'healthcare', you can always find something that makes one nation look better in comparison with another. I didn't claim the NHS was the best in the world.

That isn't 'research', that's a report commissioned by the (now defunct) Anglo German Foundation, specifically to make it look like we have a lot to learn from the germans so they get funding.
I'm not saying we don't/can't learn from some aspects of the german system, or that there aren't areas where germany does better than the UK (infant mortality being one of them, although IIRC the small discrepancy is more realistically explained by the increased choice of 'keeping' deformed/disabled pregnancies in the UK) I'm just saying...that source is crap.

I'm not claiming the NHS is perfect, but if you look at the actual reality...and don't pay attention to sensationalist newspaper articles, it's very very good if you take cost into account and don't count culture.

Thanks but I don't need to listen to articles in general as I experience healthcare here and experienced it for 26 years in Germany...and the source is only one I found with short notice as right now I am too busy to search more in depth. I can give you several ones once I found again the homepage my tutor gave me (he tried to encourage me to use this topic for my dissertation, but I had no interest in it) where is a lot of research on it as it is particular about health care in different countries. It is ok when you consider it to be very very good, however the rehab centre I have seen here when I visited a friend who had a stroke last year compared to the one my dad was in when I was 10 are worlds apart and I have seen enough hospitals at both sides of the river...thankfully never stayed in one over here but already can't stand it when I have to visit someone in the huge often mixed wards over here (something which we don't have at home, we have gender generally separated in wards and maximum 6 beds in a room, most of the time they are only 3 or 4). Seriously, to stay in one of the many hospitals I have seen over here would be my worst nightmare.

Aye now there ya may have a point, what with the relentless drive for efficiency (far from being a bad thing necessarily), don't reckon we do...'aftercare' as well. I've heard it's fairly common in Germany for Drs to ring patients out of the blue every now and again after they've gone home, check they really are following the diet, doing the excercises...generally ask how they're doing etc. Can't see that failing to be given as an example of 'waste' if it takes off over here. Can well understand the dislike of difference in hospital culture too, we do afterall have a socialist system. I just look at the results we get out for the money we put in and think maybe there's some areas where socialism works great. Agree to disagree though :)
