On occasion, I have received cmail that asks ~~
"do you need training in HOW to be submissive?"

I never get a response when I respond with, "how does one train someone to be submissive?"

He's trained in the fine art of avoidance.

well I agree to most of that;
to put it simply,"this is what I want (-you will do/give/hold still) or I WILL find someone that will.
And, I want you to survive and not be hospitalized. I may wish to do that again soon."

Some people do not reside on this board 24/7 and do not have to respond when you want them to...so be patient !

Some people do have a life !

In theory, one could train a person in how to act/appear submissive. The question would be more if they meant "be submissive" as a noun or an adjective. Anyone can be taught to behave submissively, or to be submissive. But to be a submissive is something different.

YMMV.

Of course he does. But as he has responded to other things since the question was asked, one has to assume he decided not to answer it at this time. Which causes some of us to wonder why.

Silly. [:)]

Not really-I've seen him do this to several women on the boards. As soon as they ask a probing question it's like they suddenly don't exist.

He responded to a bunch of posts after the question was asked, and then a bunch more after it was repeated.

They aren't being silly.

I'm not so much of a mind reader, so let's change the focus from what they think to what I think.

Keeping in mind that you're asking Me specifically about a submissive, and D/s rather than M/s, I'm not particularly going to expect someone with a leather background. Leather really is a culture within a culture of wiitwd. Protocol isn't something that most people learn by osmosis from going to their local munch. Not high protocol, at any rate. On top of that are specific skills, such as Hib mentioned. Leather care is a big one with Me and so is formal service. There are plenty of kinky people out there who have never been to a high protocol dinner, much less served at one.

I'm not quite sure of what the issue is in using a term that is common to the business world. Someone can kick about if they'd like about how it's not a job, but a relationship. Yet within that relationship (in this case a dynamic) there really is more to it for some of us than just emotional ties. There are skill sets involved and there is more material to learn than someone is going to pick up from their experience from just getting to know a Dominant.

LP,

Now see you can be crystal clear when you want to be.

I had no issue with being clear earlier.  If you take a look at My first response to this thread, I said the same thing.  I've also repeated it a number of times on the forums when people have brought up their issue with the word "training".  This dislike of the term usually stems from their own or hearing others use the term for more selfish and dubious reasons(The other one that gets some people's nose out of joint is "consideration".)  These terms were in use long before some chose to bastardize them on the net.

Hey hey now. Don't be getting down on "consideration". I'm still under consideration for HoM and I don't want you upsetting the applecart till I'm in.

I said nothing of the kind. I said that training is something that we all do and receive and questioned your comment about us not addressing training as it relates to d/s. A comment which you have still failed to clarify.

Please explain what you feel the difference is between teaching and training.

Aquatic, mail me when he finally decides to dust off his Phd brain and actually answer a question. He doesnt want a debate, he wants others to agree with him.

Training is absolutely necessary, from the Dominant that is to be served.

I suspect that most training is for the Dominant to get his jollies.

This. especially if it is someone they will never meet. or collar.

littlewonder -> RE: Training ?????? (8/26/2010 3:32:20 PM)

Master trains me in lots of things.

for us it just means he teaches me to do the things he requires in our relationship such as how to fix something he needs fixed, how to iron his shirts, etc...just learning his preferences in life. I'm not perfect and I don't know how to do everything so he trains me in those areas that I am weak, uneducated or unskilled.

Yes. I thought one either is submissive or is not.....you either are or you aren't. As for "training," I thought it's just teaching the s-type things that her/his specific Dominant wants her/him to know. But then, I could also be wrong. [8|]

CP, perhaps you might explain just what you view as a D/s training experience that would not cross over into the "vanilla" world. Beyond the kink, i cant think of a single thing.

Tazzygirl,

Thats is just the problem, I personally disavow that stuff that is inferred by training.........just rubs me wrong, orientation, teaching perhaps.

See, and I don't get why this is even a question. Carol is, by my personal assessment anyway, one of the most generally submissive personalities I've ever met. But what's that got to do with training her to be submissive. If I encountered a child prodigy pianist I'd still expect a skilled piano instructor could take them from "talented" to "great". I have taken the attributes of Carol's personality which form her submissiveness and have accentuated them... ergo, I have trained her to be [more] submissive. She has trained me to be more dominant (although in her case, the word "train" suffers a bit because she didn't have a focused, goal-oriented task).
