I think the subject goes back to something that was touched in your recent thread on calling people brats and so on.  (I apologize for not using the proper title.)  We do tend to notice the comments made by others more if they can be compared to our personal situation.  For you, that means a Daddy Dom dynamic and for Me that is female led dynamics.  Just because it isn't specifically the word "creepy" doesn't mean we don't get the insults of our own.  You don't notice those as often because it isn't similar to your situation.  I can assure you.  It's still out there.

My actual understanding of the Daddy Dom type dynamic is somewhat limited due to not participating in it.  Roughly, I consider them more based on nurturing rather than rigid obedience.  While that may not be the interpretation of everyone, that's enough for Me to get the concept.  Enough for Me to 'get it' but doesn't change My lack of desire to have a relationship that is structured that way.

At the same time, the point is probably useless considering we started talking about fetishes and somehow drifted into various styles of dynamics.  An impossible subject to think everyone will agree on.

I do not think it was a "drift". I think that it was a direct shift brought on by post 9. We didn't even get through half a page before someone saw the OP as an opportunity to equate relationship style with a fetish. Now, now, do not get me wrong, I still enjoy many posters here that think I am "creepy", LaM being one of those people who thinks I am "creepy", yet I enjoy reading his posts in other contexts. Aynne also thinks I am "creepy, immature, and unable to run [sic] my life"

I think this shift on the first page goes directly to my posts on this thread, which is that people use threads such as these to cross the line from "Hey, it doesn't work for me, but if it works for you, great!" to "people who that works for are 'creepy'". It is a violation of the guidelines, in my opinion. Of course you notice it more when people attack the way you live then when they attack the way I live, pretty normal. We are all pretty sensitive to things that are important to us. I suppose I see some of my kinks as being "creepy". It is kinda weird that I like to be humiliated, and to be spanked, etc. I know it is "weird", but to call my entire relationship "creepy", that is an entirely different matter.

I do not really want to have to explain that the relationships I have engaged in the past are not "fetishes" or "kinks", and it says a lot I have to.

Numerous posts have been removed.  If the topic is forbidden by the TOS, please don't discuss it here, and there is certainly no reason to list it as a fetish you don't understand. 

Also, you can discuss kinks you don't understand without insulting people who have those kinks.

Most of the things people wrote here don't qualify as fetishes as far as the definition goes. For example, being attracted to smart people can never be a fetish. Nor can swinging (lifestyle)...

Julia: As far as what you wrote, that type of dynamic would injure me psychologically. However, I managed to refrain from commenting on it in terms of other people. I enjoy reading your posts in general.

I think many of us have made this mistake at least once... hopefully only once.... In my defense, he was a gorgeous recently retired marine (38 years old, tall and hunky). I decided that there are some things one cannot put up with no matter how hot looking a man is

Years ago, I read that ReSEARCH book on sexual fetishes, and the one that still intrigues me is BALLOONS. Some folks liked the balloons, others liked POPPING the balloons. I've never met a balloon fetishist to ask, what IS the allure? Is it tied in to rubber, because stroking a balloon is fun! Bouncing against balloons, also fun.

This is pretty much where I'm at. Many of the fetishes that have been described in this thread as being difficult to understand make perfect sense to me. Unpleasant body fluids? This is (or can be) just another way of filling a submissive with those delicious feelings of degradation and revulsion. Tickling? A complex, extreme and generally unpleasant sensation, basically a form of pain play. Et cetera. I can understand a lot of fetishes intellectually without being particularly turned on by them myself.

On the other hand... balloons? Or the Eiffel Tower? I can't say I've ever really understood people who have a thing for gas masks, either. There are some things I'm genuinely unable to wrap my head around.

I would have to say the same way that infection is avoided if you're into cutting.  Maybe I'm not understanding correctly and you're referring to the folks who are actually addicted to real surgical procedures?
