Strange as it may seem, that is okay too.

I asked, I think, a valid question…how is spontaneous creation any less fantastic or different then intelligent design?

Well, if you want Stephen Hawkings actual answer to that question perhaps you should read his book. But assuming his position is given without supporting science and is just an opinion is why I agree that your statement is silly.

P.S. I would actually enjoy it if you used crayons.

He has NO proof of spontaneous creation… none whatsoever...it is strictly an opinion of his... there is no math to back it up...it is a theory no more or less proven than Genesis. In fact the two theories are closer together than opposing. They both say essentially the same thing except Hawkings does not believe God is behind it. Good for him it is his right and opinion but not proof.

ps... I'm personally better at finger painting....one finger painting anyway [:D]

AND its ok if you don't answer my question directly..it just shows you have no answer

A small correction,, you are mistaking the "big bang theory" as the origin of the universe from nothing. Not so.
Most
physicists,
A physicist is a scientist who studies or practices physics. Physicists study a wide range of physical phenomena in many branches of physics spanning all length scales: from sub-atomic particles of which all ordinary matter is made (particle physics) to the behavior of the material Universe as a whole (cosmology). One of the world's best known physicists is Albert Einstein.
cosmologists, cos·mol·o·gy (kz-ml-j)
n. pl. cos·mol·o·gies
1. The study of the physical universe considered as a totality of phenomena in time and space.
2.
a. The astrophysical study of the history, structure, and constituent dynamics of the universe.
b. A specific theory or model of this structure and these dynamics.

scientists

and mathematical theorists,
The starting point (or pre big bang) remains speculation, as current understanding of mathematical & physics theories will NOT at this time allow speculation of any value to be explored. THAT is PRIOR to big bang.

So stand by for that news flash when it's worked out[8D]

Should be the most important finding since DNA

I think if you watch these two videos, described as the answer to everything, it should resolve your issues. The answer is inflation produced a multitude of universes.
The universe has no boundary, meaning no beginning and no end, and it just curls around itself.

My theory of multiple linear mathematically proven stances and now seemingly chaotic systems will stand together as "one theory for everything". This one theory will prove that chaotic systems and linear systems play off one another. This to me is why Einsteins theories work in some areas and not others as well as Hawking's will be seen as well. I don't believe there is one ring to rule them all so to speak.

kdsub -> RE: Hawking: God Did Not Create Universe (9/5/2010 7:28:25 PM)

Oh Brain...come on...I said proof...did you watch your own videos? They are full of ifs...possibilities...maybe‘s...could be’s…if only there were a unified theory.

They are suppositions without proofs but you miss my main point…if he is correct in spontaneous creation then his views match Genesis except for the belief in guidance during creation…but the mechanics are there and possible for both guided and unguided creation.

I ask why if there is a state where all physical things are a potential why could there not be a state where all things intelligent are a potential and why is it not possible that the intelligence came before the physical?

Isn't it evident? If he agrees with you then he probably thinks he concedes to a god-like being as a possibility and he isn't ready to do that...so much so that he's willing to throw rational thought out the window when it suits him.

I don't have you an answer on what Dr. Hawkings has to say in regards to your question, I haven't read the book. My issue is that it's pretty obvious that you haven't either and are just making up his position on the subject.

Brain -> RE: Hawking: God Did Not Create Universe (9/5/2010 8:42:10 PM)

I think he said somewhere in those videos, 1 to 5, proof will take up to 20 years.

I think what you said here may be philosophy, I don’t understand it unfortunately. Anything is possible I suppose.

Brain do you believe there will come a time when we will know unequivocally the absolute truth and workings of the Universe? I mean will we be able to understand and prove how the Universe can spontaneous create its self? Will we understand what was before the beginning and what will be after the end?

I think not...so... I believe philosophy is as good a way as theoretical science to attempt to grasp a logical understanding of the possibilities.

How else can you describe the magic of something from nothing in its literal sense if not by philosophy?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Hawking: God Did Not Create Universe (9/6/2010 4:45:10 AM)

Ok, Crazy assed idea here. Some day, if we learn all the secrets of the universe, including the mechanics of their creation. Would we do it and become????????????????

Is that why we're here?

Hillwilliam,

Questions that came to mind, when reading post #113?

Does knowing truth change what we are, or just our perception of what we are?

Does knowing how to fly make you a bird? If you are a passenger on a plane; are you flying, or just the plane?

Just some thoughts,

Kim

You are so insanely wrong on this post, and so illogical in this thread, that it is clear you dont have the slightest understanding of science. Read the book, till then stfu, because you have no clue what you are talking about.

Technically true, but a nit, and less true than it was 20 years ago. The theories supported by the vast majority of cosmologists today boil down to a big bang arising from random fluctuations in "nothing", so they are interchangeable.

Technically we are flying but not by our definition of a bird.

It is possible that having that kind of knowledge may change us physically but you and I are so far from ever having that full knowledge as a species that we will never know. IMO

and willbeur: How illogical is it to believe that something was created out of nothing? I'll answer that forya..It's crazy as hell. Nobody knows with certainty how everything was started and for what reasons.

So crazy that its been done in the lab regularly.

pyroaquatic -> RE: Hawking: God Did Not Create Universe (9/6/2010 10:07:36 AM)

God Did Not Create The Universe On Purpose.

Just the initial BANG.

Care to share the links to that? They've created a number of things recently (last 10 years) including reproducing black holes but making something from nothing is news to me.
