Me too, especially the burning of religious books. I find this as distasteful as flag burning.

Vendaval -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/6/2010 8:04:47 PM)

Yes, and here is the link for their reasoning behind burning the Koran, the second one is most interesting. How can anyone prove what is recorded in heaven?

"Two

The Koran does not have an eternal origin. It is not recorded in heaven. The Almighty God, Creator of the World, is NOT it's source. It is not holy. It's writings are human in origin, a concoction of old and new teachings. This has been stated and restated for centuries by scholars since Islam's beginnings, both Moslem and non-Moslem."

Aneirin -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/6/2010 8:13:02 PM)

I suppose both holy books, the Qur'an and the Bible were designed to be followed in blind faith by those blinded by faith, not questioned as is common with those who question. Islamic scholars, just like Christian scholars know full well what is said in their respective holy books are open to many thoughts that the blinded by faith see as something else. With that said, perhaps holy books were created to capture a certain mentality of person ?

The Bible is considered contraband in many Islamic lands, you dont want to get caught with one and theyre destroyed whenever they found...

What does that have to do with book burning in the USA?

Sanity -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/6/2010 8:39:46 PM)

Just an observation. I find it heartwarming how our centuries old constitutionally guaranteed  freedom of speech is incredibly tolerant and tremendously advanced in comparison, and its scary how backwards and primitive some societies are.

Sanity -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/6/2010 8:49:13 PM)

Its also a shame the way many so-called "Liberals" are seeking to curb our cherished freedom of speech in order to accommodate their primitive-minded allies among fundamentalist, radical Islam.

Hillwilliam -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/6/2010 9:00:11 PM)

Would you feel the same way about burrning the flag?

Seriously, dude, i'm all for freedom of speech but I'm also all for common sense. If you are looking at a 300# drunk assed biker wearing brass knuckles, you dont go up to him and say "hey you FAGGOT", yeah, I mean YOU " then when you wake up, you whine about your "freedom of speech"

With freedom comes responsibility.

Where are you railing about freedom of speech when wikileaks was telling the world what our plans were in Afghanistan?

They have a RIGHT to burn any damn thing they want.

They have a RESPONSIBILITY to not do things that will get more of our servicemen and women killed.

Burn the holy book of those crazy fuckers and you are doing all the hard work of recruiting martyrs for them.

For every 100 martyrs you recruit, you are probably killing one of our servicemen. Do you want that on your conscience?

Is it worth it to you to prove a point that you can have freedom without responsibility?

SUPPORT our servicemen. Dont do stupid shit that will make their lives more difficult or even shorten their lives.

Cut the passive agressive crap, put on your big girl panties and show some damn common sense. [:D]

Sanity -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/6/2010 9:22:08 PM)

Before you try to talk about common sense you should try addressing what I actually wrote because I never came anywhere near suggesting that they were correct to to burn anything.

And again, how could a small group of people somewhere in Florida burning a Koran or two be useful in recruiting a significant number of martyrs if Islam is truly a peaceful, tolerant religion.

Malkinius -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/7/2010 12:46:00 AM)

{fast reply}

A fair number of years ago some preacher and church planned a bonfire of the Dungeons & Dragons books because they contained magic and demons. Gary Gygax, the publisher, offered the preacher a wholesale discount on copies of the books by the case. The burning never happened. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned from that?

Be well...

Maybe because Islamic radicals are not peaceful and tolerant, kinda like certain Christians who go around shooting abortion doctors.

But that said, I think they should be able to burn whatever they like. Poor taste, in spades. Outrageous, for sure. But in a country where people can dunk a crucifix in piss and burn the American flag, I'm afraid this adds up to nothing more than our Muslim citizens' turn to get used to it, just like the rest of us have had to.

Key words - "significant number".

And heres how our leftist friends reacted when Playboy published a nude depiction of Mary:

Many leftists seem to think that if one standard is good then two standards must be even better.

For some reason I cannot reply to your posy containing the link to the petraeus comments.

The Gates of Vienna is an anti-Islam blog featuring an historical perspective on the conflicts between Islam and the civilized world.

Their take on his comments is interesting. In part:

we don’t have generals like that anymore.

Our generals don’t win wars. They build nations.

They are tasked to win the hearts and minds of whatever godforsaken lice-infested child-molesting goatherds their fool of a commander-in-chief sends them out to protect.

This is what our “national defense” has become.

More here.

Try to keep up, my only reference to so-called "Liberals" in the post you were responding to was about free speech issues, or to break it down for you a little further how leftists in Canada and Europe and the United States continually work to eliminate the freedom of speech bit by bit as it suits their agenda, in this case in order to appease radical Islam.

The part about my supporting "hem" as you say is all a part of your overactive imagination.
