Then try "Muslims burn bible" and "Muslims burn church". Your search abilities are lacking and finding one example of two 13 year olds should have told you to search more.

Ok. I wasted several minutes of my time searching for your claim. Lots of claims and lots of contradictory lists. Nothing remotely persuasive.

Something thats just bizarre about your post is that in the post youre responding to, the one you are agreeing with, 059 is saying that Muslims are savages.

I'll even quote him:

"We`re above that in America. We don`t behave like animals because "others" behave that way.Our behavior isn`t lead by dumbest, crudest, ugliest most awful people in the world. It`s lead (or should be)by our highest values and the most generous of principals.

We`re the supposed the be the good guys. Not in a race to the bottom with savages."

quote:

ORIGINAL: Aneirin

Yes, you are quite correct in saying that America should be above this shit, that is as far as many of the rest of the world are concerned, the land of the free, the land of opportunity, the new world all things that America has been called in the past. America is only young, but built on a bunch of people who sought to give every citizen freedom from the oppression and tyranny their ancestors felt in the countries they came from, your American constitution is admired by many the world over.

For America to continue with this racist behaviour,
this intolerance towards others, you are very much in danger of changing America into the very type of country your ancestors emigrated from, I bet your founding fathers are spinning in their graves at what America is in very real danger of becoming, that very thing they knew about from history that they sought this new land made up of other lands not to be.

Does it not give the American people pride that they are American before anything else and quite possibly all they need to be as to be anything else before American is going down the old paths of tyranny and oppression. Follow this root and there will be woe, America will just be another country that rose to stardom on the backs of great ideals, but became a victim of itself and collapsed into nothing. To illustrate this, look at the people of any one great civilisation, what they are now in comparison to what they were, some border on third world.

America the land of hope and freedom, do you want to see that replaced by America, ugh, why would I want to go there and all the economic possibilities that will be flushed along with your good name.

Why would you ever get in line behind leftists such as 059 who believe that their fellow men are "savages" if theyre not just like they are.

Who is it insensitive to? I have no problem with it, and last I looked I am an American...

This isn't an analogy for burning the Koran at all. Building something is not the same as destroying something... just saying

Both possible acts seem to be rather inflammatory in nature.  Both possible acts seem to be upsetting a very loud group of people.  I could be wrong, but they're not all doing it because they're Islamaphobic or anything like that. SO yes.  I can compare them.  They're both offensive to a very loud minority.

It doesn't even matter if it offends me or you or anyone else, or rather, it won't be stopped by you and I.  The Imam and the Preacher need to make those decisions for themselves.  My feelings mean diddly squat in this situation simply because both acts are protected under the 1st Amendment.

Personal aside:  I find both possible acts to be offensive.  I think burning the Quran or the Bible or any other religious text is disrespectful and I find it fundamentally and morally disgusting.  That's MY opinion.

Personal morality does not trump the U.S. Constitution. Plain and simple.

AsmodaisSin -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/8/2010 10:39:21 AM)

On an aside...I could be wrong, but they don't have the permits yet to burn the Quran yet.  O_O  Gotta love that.

pogo4pres -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/8/2010 10:48:01 AM)

And now with permission of the author I reprint in  its entirety post # 27:

quote:

I say sure just as long as we burn Bibles, Torahs, and every "prayer book" of the Buddhist, and Hindus and every other piece of religious detritus as well.
That we still need religion to "guide" in our interactions with our fellow humans says a lot about just how non-evolved we really are.

Thus spake Ian Anderson:

1 In the beginning Man created God;
and in the image of Man
created he him.

2 And Man gave unto God a multitude of
names, that he might be Lord of all
the earth when it was suited to Man

3 And on the seven millionth
day Man rested and did lean
heavily on his God and saw that
it was good.

4 And Man formed Aqualung of
the dust of the ground, and a
host of others likened unto his kind.

5 And these lesser men were cast into the
void; And some were burned, and some were
put apart from their kind.

6 And Man became the God that he had
created and with his miracles did
rule over all the earth.

7 But as all these things
came to pass, the Spirit that did
cause man to create his God
lived on within all men: even
within Aqualung.

8 And man saw it not.

9 But for Christ's sake he'd
better start looking.

Line one remains the single best explanation of why there is religion I have seen in the 40 years since the record album was released.

.I don't guess you could swear an oath in this country on a Koran, even if you were muslim.

Yes you can:

"North Carolina judge Paul Ridgeway ruled today that "any religious text" may be used to swear in court witnesses, after the American Civil Liberties Union pursued a lawsuit claiming that using only the Bible is discriminatory.

The ACLU claimed that existing law is expansive enough to interpret oath-taking to include other texts besides the Christian Bible, and unconstitutional if read otherwise...

...Interest in the issue has been generated recently by the United States congressman Keith Ellison (D-Minn), who converted to Islam as a college student and used the Koran at his swearing in ceremony in January."

Maybe it's just me, but might not the invasion of Afghanistan be considered sending such a message?
On the other hand, the only message this stupidity sends to anybody is: "I was dropped on my head as a baby."

I'm not sure I understand your point, or rather, what point you're trying to make that's relevant.  I'm just quoting the guy directly.  The bold-faced word is the kicker there.  Radical

Moonhead -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/8/2010 1:33:41 PM)

I'm told the reason you invaded Afghanistan in the first place was that was where OBL was holed up.
You're aware that the radical Jihadist element would far rather see English translations of the Koran burned than in the hands of infidels? They're mostly shi'ites, who take a very purist line to that sort of thing. In that light, the intended insult to Islam is very feeble indeed. The radicals won't give a shit, but the moderates might get offended.
Still, what else can you expect from a publicity seeking Baptist fuckwit who's using the deaths of thousands of people to raise his media profile?

MBMBN, how about we de-certify islam as a "religion" and reclassify it as a cult?
I'm on the condo board here and we hire mostly black vendors.

You are so damned ignorant... even cults have the freedom to be cults in this country...

We have the freedom to believe any way we like and to worship any way we want.

I'm still trying to figure out what Islam has to do with being on the condo board and what any of it has to do with hiring black vendors.

-Shrugs.-  You're probably right.

Should they burn them?  I don't believe they ought to.  Can they burn them?  Theoretically, yes.  Of course, they need proper permits for such an act.  -Shrugs.-  That's odd to me too, but whatever.

It's incensitive to the victims of 9/11 and it's insensitive to Muslims, respectively. I know you don't agree, we beat this dead horse in another thread.

I said I * feel * the same way about it. It is my own personal feelings. I did not say they were similar or comprable acts... I said I feel the same way. No analogy was used. Just sayin.

tazzygirl -> RE: should they burn the quarun? (9/8/2010 8:46:08 PM)

Wednesday, the city of Gainesville denied a burn permit to the center, said Bob Woods, City of Gainesville spokesman.

"It was a question of public safety," said Woods. "The Gainesville Fire Department has notified the center through a letter," he said.

But that isn't stopping the church. The Gainesville Sun reported that, in an e-mail newsletter sent out Wednesday, the church announced: "City of Gainesville denies burn permit - BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS."

Gene Prince, the interim chief of Gainesville Fire Rescue, told the Sun on Wednesday that under the city's fire prevention ordinance, an open burning of books is not allowed. He said if the church goes ahead with its plan, it will be fined.

And the church's intentions aren't the issue. "It wouldn't matter what the book is they're burning," Deputy Chief Tim Hayes told the Sun.

I had heard this earlier on the news. Should be interesting.
