Status: offline 		PaHunk it is not new, it has been used for decades in places other than the United States with really good results. We just happen to be backward about medicine here, unless it is produced by big pharma then it goes through the FDA (both things which raise a flag for me, not the other way around) then it is hard to get approval on it. Money. There is less money involved for them despite the help this medication can give.

Status: offline 		Camille=  as far as ANSAIDS go-  ibuprofen is as good as it gets.   the others are over prices variants- not worth the cost.

acupuncure- and chiropractor are 2 items that I have had luck with.

Status: offline 		Well hell -- why stop there with just prescription drugs --- people with HIV and aids sometimes contract same because they shoot up illegal drugs, so perhaps all people who contract Aids or HIV need to be reported to the cops so they can utilize same to perhaps run down users and then maybe get to their dealers.  Its the SAME concept which they are using here with regard to prescription drugs.  People with sexually transmitted diseases most probably are people who do illegal things like drugs etc - didn'tcha know!!, so perhaps the cops should have a list of all people who contract sexually transmitted diseases so they can have them on a list and maybe cure the illegal drug issues.  People with lung cancer, oh they probably smoke pot illegally, so we need to knwo everyone who has lung cancer.  etc etc etc.  What the hell why not let cops have access to all medical information of people because they may find something that can lead them to solving crime.

Are some of these seemingly outrageous reasons -- yeah.  BUt they are no different than cops wanting a list of ALL people on prescription drugs to help with the presciption drug problem.  Its compiling a list of POSSIBLE suspects based upon their medical history.  They will start with this and what's next or when does it become to "outrageous" a reason?  When will it expand based on growing problems in our society to employers feeling they should have access to their employees medical information as a whole or schools feeling they should have access to not only kids but the parents medical info because well you know prescription drug abuse in kids is on the rise and they need to know what parents are taking them.

People may think this is a little thing and those who who need babysitters or parents will be outted and helped which we all know is BS,  but it isn't -- its a huge dent and a condition of what shouldn't be private.  And it won't stop here.  Every decision to allow conditional privacy means it is a concept that can be used in the future to make more and more conditions until you have no control over your private information.

If you have a prescription you get that many pills for that length of time. How does knowing who gets them help?

Is the sheriff going to stop bye and count them every day?

How many patients have multiple Dr.'s writing multiple scripts?

Not enough to warrant letting law enforcement know what drugs I am being prescribed.


The idea is to tie together the different places that write prescriptions so you can see who is using multiple pharmacies.  For some weird reason, there is no statewide network, which puts the pharms thirty years behind the times. The cops want to get that info themselves to cover for the pharms not doing it.

Easier to pass a law requiring the pharms and docs to get online and connected.

Oh and they haven't even thought of insurance companies yet.  I can imagine what cops are going to believe they are entitled to in the "name" of fighting crime when and if health care becomes socialized.

angel, my insurance company occasionally gets stuff right, but I figure that's due to chance.  I shudder to think if the cops get access to total crap info and act on it.

The pharmacies in PA -  it might have to do with insurance payments- but they are pretty strict about DR shopping- and multi rxs.

Status: offline 		I don't see why the police would need to know what you are on unless they have an actual interest. like if they catch you selling or buying Perkies on the corner or driving off. 

A state database of who has had controlled prescriptions filled is not that unusaual. Most states are there. It can catch red flags.

The statistic of 30% of people with controlled susbtances in the first half of the year is a dumb fgure to support for this in my opinion.

People are going to be addictive in one form or another. There comes a point for some personal responsibility for it.

Status: offline 		Curious question what state database of people named who are being prescribed What drugs are there wherein people like police have access? It would be A major violation of HIPAA so Please let us known because not only will the medical brd be interested but people on that list would be I am sure . There is a huge difference bt statistical recording and a list of names that is utilized to incriminate people.

Status: offline 		There are only 5 states that all law inforcement access and it doesn't stTes what info they Aare allowed from the list. Nc has an operational list. And of those there are specifics as to what kind they can monitor. So it's not common. For law enforcement. Doctors? Sure. I've always believes there should be a main med Rec data base. But who has random access should be majorly limited and law enforce
Enforcement can get recs for indvs through warrants they should not have access when there is no cause. There are also guidelines that must be met. And it's not cart blache access of just names on a list from what I am seeing

From whAt it sounds like these cops want cart blache.

Great post!

Since pills are such a threat- we need real time RFID tracking so that the grid knows exactly who is doing what.    We also should have cams take pictures of people and fine them $100 each time.
