You are right, but what is wrong with letting a jury decide ?  Whichever way you look at it, the posting of the video as the cause of his suicide, even if his reaction seems over the top to most people. I doubt anyone arguing with me here is foolish enough to say if the video hadnt been streamed, the guy would STILL have killed himself.

Status: offline 		I think I've made my point It is a shame you don't see it...So I guess it is for others to decide...by the way I don't think I called you any names other than bitter. Being bitter has its own reasons and not a derogatory term. If you think i did I apologize it was not my intent.

Status: offline 		I wanted to add that society is changing slowly and in time sexual orientation will not be fuel for insults and discrimination...But that time is not here yet.

How many times have YOU heard a gay insult or joke...Or witnessed discrimination and stood by doing or saying nothing out of fear of being called gay or gay lover? I'll bet if you are honest more than a few times over your lifetime. I hate to admit I am guilty. Kids hear, see and learn from our behavior.

When the time comes that the majority speaks out against this hatred and fear we will be on the road to true equality of all regardless of sexual orientation.

   No problems Butch. Just for the record, I am not bitter, just sad this guy decided to commit suicide, because some tosser thought it would be fun to video stream him with another guy.

Rule, I would disassemble your egregiously-subjective definition of "civilised", were this the topic and forum for such, but as it is patently not, I'll just let it go with a knowing smirk. We now return to our originally-scheduled topic.

Status: offline 		About the only good I see coming out of this are the dialogues that have followed in the wake of this young man's death. Apart from the mindless bigotry of his roommate, Tyler LACKED the strategies he needed to cope with this situation and whatever else was going on in his life that brought him to the conclusion that the only way to put an end to it was through suicide. Intervention begins at home and it begins with what parents teach their kids. From there - schools need to reinforce those values and provide mentoring and outreach for kids who may be in crisis.

Never. If I see/hear something I speak up. I even called my boss out in the middle of a crowded breakroom when she said something discriminatory that she thought was 'funny'. And I would never even consider standing by and doing nothing with my son around. I care more about the man he is going to grow into than i do any flack i might receive.

The one thing is though my mother raised me to believe that everyone was equal and everyone deserved to be treated fairly. She has since told me she thought maybe she did me a disservice because the world wasn't a fair place and I was doubly hurt when I experienced injustice again and again in my life. But I guess I decided my mom was right and the world was wrong because I've always treated others as fairly and considerately as I can and hopefully I've tipped the balance in the lives over the years that I've touched.
