I have a cast iron flat skillet that's great for making pancakes as there's no sides to get in the way.
I "season it by rubbing cooking oil on it and putting it in the oven for a half hour or so.

Has anyone talked to most college graduates lately?

Or, if you want the technical explanation:
Iron oxide has two allotropic forms. One is gamma magnetite (black rust) and the other is alpha magnetitie (red rust).
Red rust is porous to liquids and will trap bacteria and allow further rusting through the layer of rust... pitting.
Black rust is tightly adhering and provides a slick non poruous surface.... a very good non stick surface.

Gamma magnetite forms at high temperature with limited exposure to oxygen.

Heat the pan to 350 degrees for about twenty minutes with a light coating of oil to season.

For cleaning:
Scour hot with salt and oil, allow to cool, then rinse with cool water. Wipe dry and store with a light coat of cookign oil.

You will have a non stick cast iron cookware that does not support mold growth or bacterial growth.

Don't disparage Wally World too much. They do sell Lodge brand cast iron which is still made the old school method with no additives. Now the brand of enameled decorator cast iron is not worth it but the true cast stuff they sell is excellent.

Wally World also sells the Wearever Elite line which is made of two layers of stainless steel with a cast iron bottom between for even heating. My favorite saucier is one of those from Wally World.

Teflon breaks down to carbon tetraflouride at 750 degrees. I refuse to fry or saute in a teflon pan. Also, teflon, once scratched, is no longer non stick. Not worth the effort. I'd rather use a real cooking surface I can take care of and remediate a scratch with a griddle block.

Seriously, every generation complains about the one that follows and vice versa. Ours just gets to be one of the first to do so online instead of over the back fence, in newspaper editorials, or in front of the corner store!

That said, simple math such as making change is in no way a dead skill, and I cringe every time I encounter someone of any age who cannot do so without a computer. Same goes for basic spelling, if not grammar. As for the ice cube trays, I really have to wonder how hard it is to figure out 'there's a lever, pull it' or 'grab the ends and twist or hit it on something' when you have the thing in your hands. I managed the (manual) can opener at age 5 without help or instruction... and did so really well. Per my Mom, she is still pissed about what I did to her pantry and kitchen that day!

Status: offline 		Both popeye and Wyld have very valid points about kids and technology and education.  One of the things I objected to when my son was in school was that in his math classes, instead of teaching them how to actually DO the math, they taught them how to use those million button calculators.  When I was in math class, back in the Stone Age, the teachers wanted to actually SEE the calculations.  I once asked him what would happen if he his calculator died in class, he said, "no problem, I have extra batteries", I then asked what if he didn't, his reply..."I'd borrow some from a friend".  Plus, they actually let them use them during tests!!!!! 

Also, how many of you have been in a grocery store, or any store, when their computerized cash registers have crashed?  Those poor kids can't even figure out how to make change without the machine there to tell them how much it is.  I had to help count out my change once when this happened to me.  Now that's pathetic!  I'm the worst at math, but at least I can add and subtract...may need a finger or two, but I can do it in my head!

but that was just the tip of the ice burg...then I tried to hire people to petition,and while being a half retarded slacker myself, i found that it's amazingly easy to make hundreds of dollars a day pedaling paperwork, so easy that half the people I worked with for other coordinators amazed my already jaded ideas of how stupid people can be, and they were still able to do it, really, it's that easy, just stand outside a store and bug every single person that walks in...it's that easy(shit, half my "coworkers" didn't even read the tripe they were circulating). But of course then I found the real example of how useless most people really are, I took out adds in papers and posters on campus walls, every thing, and I was training bout 20 people a month, and do I get any results for training sooo many people in such an easy job(and we're not talking bout just retards, I'm talking bout training every one from school teachers to college kids to drug dealers, every one that came to get a job), at the end of the campaigns, I had five people who came back and got paid, the only two who did it more then once were both mentally retarted...really, the others that turned in were a mish mash, some were able to break one hundred dollars with in just a few hours(one, a long time friend of mine, who is a young father of two, and is living off minimal college grants in his moms house, made a hundred in one day, but never turned it in...now he's doing landscaping for scratch and complaining of the shitty hours)the others were sad lumps who just turned in what I had made for them during training.

So needless to say, I've been trying to come up for a reason that catastrophic plagues and natural disasters wouldn't be all that bad, but have yet to find a solid answer....

Handed the young cashier 21 dollars.

She at first gave me back 16.16. I said.. no, thats not right.

She took it back and said... oh, im sorry. i owe you 5.84.

I said... no, thats not right either. I waited till she called someone else over to figure out why the computer was telling her the wrong amount to give me back.

The poor manager gave me back the 15.16 i was owed, appologized and thanked me for my honesty.

I know it was only a dollar. But, if that occurred a few times a day, everyday, it quickly adds up to a huge loss for the business.

I get irritated when they have to call for another employee.  Takes up more time-

The price is often wrong.  The scanner.   I figure when it is in my favor- it makes up for when it is not in my favor.  I hate when it takes up my time.  Especially if i am running late.  

I hate shopping.
