I drive a '98 1.3 Nissan Micra. I bought it with 30,000 on the clock, and it now has 103,000 after 4 years in my hands. I've just had a new clutch and second hand gearbox put in it, and expect to get another 50,000 miles out of it. Other than this, regular oil and filter changes, several front pad changes, tyres and a new set of front discs, it has cost me next to nothing in maintenance. Assuming it makes 150K, work it all out, and its costing about £400 per year in depreciation, plus £2000 per year fuel, and then tax and insurance on top. It still does 45 mpg, and it gets thrashed mercilessly. I rarely get overtaken on my way to work. It has never broken down in the 70,000+ miles I have driven it. Orientation-wise, I'm undecided. Don't like labels much. The Micra is probably what many would think of as a girl's car.
