Ok maybe thats what I am missing. Can someone direct me to where the policy is posted. That would probably answer a lot of questions because all I see is people saying the are spam reporting posts they don't really like to receive. I haven't seen the listed policy regarding and defining spam on collarme. Which many don't realize is different site than collarchat which is what we are on.

As PA was good enough to list for you, the information is provided to you that you have access to before a problem exists.  It is listed on the help page.  The message very specifically tells you how to avoid this:
To prevent the filter from activating we recommend that you take the time to read the profiles of the other users on the site and send a personalized message to those that interest you

Why would your suggestions help in the future if they didn't work in the past, LP? Again, these sanctions occur as a result of the responses of the recipient rather than the actions of the sender.

Lockit -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:01:22 AM)

So far we have learned that the op cannot send email. Some of us know that we can still get email from those the spam filter has red flagged because we have seen the messages. So we can wonder/assume that the mass email continued, because the op's journal entry states that people were responding to him with some rudeness and he decided that form letters were the solution to this.

So far, none of us have this problem, so we must assume that lots of people are reporting or the op is sending out lots of email. Either way, there is something he is doing. None of us have been red flagged and many send a lot of email in a day or short period. So whatever the cause or reason... it sounds like the op needs to adjust a few things. I know when I have done something wrong, there was an email for me here or my private email.

Pointing out how wrong this or that is, isn't going to do a darn thing except let those who don't have these issues know why there might be a problem with the op. How many of us get crap email? Is our response to cut and paste form letters? Send out lots of emails? If there was nothing to this and a fluke or glitch, wouldn't some of us sending out a lot of email, which I sometimes do, have a problem? Why would a glitch be so selective?

Most don't report for a simple 'Good Morning'. There is more to this story and we are only getting the whinny side of it.

ModeratorOne -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:02:51 AM)

The spam filter is actually quite complex and uses various criteria to determine whether or not someone is spamming but honestly, you would know if you were spamming people. Sending a *good morning* to a friend when you happen to see them on the site is fine. Sending *good morning* or *hi* or *can we talk* or even a well thought out form letter that you copy and paste to every single person who fits your search criteria in the hopes that something actually sticks is considered spam. We are still tweaking our system since it is rather new and complex but of those that have contacted support regarding this issue, we have yet to find users who aren't spamming.

Even with the spam filter in place I am receiving spam messages from people to my ModeratorOne account saying things like *I read through your entire profile and I think we have a lot in common I am blah blah...." so it takes quite a bit to get caught in the spam filter. If you feel you were incorrectly targeted please write to support and the issue will be investigated. I also urge you to carefully read profiles, send messages to those you feel you are compatible with and focus on quality over quantity.

Hello OP,

Obviously you inadvertently triggered the sites new program for monitoring outgoing email or spam like correspondence. This is unfortunate for you, and I understand that you are annoyed. Your best course of action is to evaluate your own outgoing mail to figure out how and why you were custom fitted for a temporry muzzle. Since none of us here on the forums responding to your post, have the ability to monitor your emails to show you what exactly you did wrong, you'll simply have to step-up and figure out how to NOT get muzzled in the future.

Reading your journal, it is apparent that you have not been receiving the responses you hoped. Your statement in your joural that other members should 'expect form letters in the future' is counter-intuitive. If you followed through with the statement you made in your journal, there could be the main cause of your current frustration.

It may be possible that your back and forth one liners between one person, triggered the spam filter. If that is the case, it is a nuisance, but you are now aware of it and thanks to your posting here, others will be aware of it as well. There is a simple fix, if this is the case. Provide a little more substance in your back and forth emails - or wait a bit between sending them. I honestly don't think this is the case, since I have often participated in back and forth short notes with others and I've never been censored. Still, there's always that possibility.

Here's where you either step up and make your own experience here productive for you, or continue on in whatever manner you have been that for whatever reason hasn't been positive for you (apparent by the frustration and negativity you present in your journal posts.)

I can pretty much assure you, that the appreciation the majority have for the spam filters far outweighs the outrcry from those who either purposely or inadvertently trigger them.

Good luck with things. I hope you work out what you did, so you can avoid a repeat perfomance.

Maybe because you're supposed to read the information that was already provided to you.  The fact that you chose to ignore what the site put into place is not the site's fault, and it's not the fault of the people who used it.  It was here but you didn't bother to read it.  That's nobody's fault but your own.

The recipients don't have some magical power that can target you without you already violating the spam policy.  Random folks aren't pinpointing you for this.  It's not that you are an innocent by-stander.  It's not people you've blocked.  The spam filter only works as a result of cause and effect.  You were sending multiple people messages that they evaluated to be spam (according to the site's policy) and they reported you for it.

What you have when you create an account of CM is a service agreement.  You are permitted to use the site and it's benefits as long as you remain within that agreement.  The site also tells you that the agreement is subject to change.  That means that it is your responsibility to keep updated on those changes.  Several people on this thread were able to direct you to that information.  It's not being kept secret from you.

In your case, this will work because you get to experience this little time out that you have on your mail and you won't repeat the process.  (That's what most people would do if they really wanted their email privilege.)  When your privilege is reinstated, I'll bet the one liner messages will be a thing of the past.

NoirUMC -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:07:34 AM)

Don't read too much into that joke. You're correct to say that I would know if I have been spamming: I have not been.

NoirUMC -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:12:06 AM)

Ok, LP, tell me something: if the idea is to give me a timeout so I learn my lesson, why have I then been blocked a second time (I was unblocked yesterday afternoon) when I havensent ZERO unsolicited messages in that time?

You said this

But not anymore; these days we've progressed to insults and caustic wit. It's enough to make me think seriously about the amount of effort I'm willing to expend on a simple "hello." Expect form letters in the future.

You need to read this

What you are doing is considered spam.

NoirUMC -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:16:59 AM)

I didn't send zero messages. I very explicitly said zero unsolicited messages. I made a reply to a friend yesterday evening, suggesting I was unblocked. Today, an attempt to send a message in response to the same user was greeted by the spam filter warning.

NoirUMC -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:18:17 AM)

Once again, for those not reading, the "good morning" messages were sent to people I was already in regular contact with.

pahunkboy -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:19:06 AM)

Then I guess the system is broken.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Annoyed! (10/8/2010 10:21:06 AM)

How MANY "Good Morning" messages did you send in one day?
