It's a game of pure speculation as to what the greater good/bad of any such act is.

The guy stalking the children with a shotgun maybe killing the next Hitler. Or 0bama0.
Most of us assume the taking of innocent human life to produce negative consequences.

Ah thought so. Lets forget the number of women who died because of back street abortions and rusty coat hangers... or those who overdosed on medicinal herbs "guarenteed" to rid the body of an unwanted "condition".

A D&C is cheaper than an abortion... guess who has those?

Lets forget 8,000,000 murdered babies.

This analogy of yours falls apart for two reasons.

1. Childbirth isn't guaranteed to produce life
2. The early stages of life can't be personified as either being guilty or innocent, nobody can detect that.

The more popular analogy would be a man breaking an egg into a saucepan. Yes it has the potential to be life but a lot of other things could prevent that potential from becoming a reality. No point separating the good eggs from the evil ones.

That's just desperation. The first is meaningless distraction, the second is a real wtf??

What 8 million?

Aneirin -> RE: Some one want to explain which part of the Bible promotes this? (10/23/2010 8:40:39 AM)

I still maintain the choice of abortion or not remains with the person carrying the feotus, as it is their body, their flesh and blood, to make it any different is to say a pregnant female is no more than a host and the parasite that dwells within them is more important to men who do not give birth, so cannot know anything of what feelings are generated by the situation that pregnancy is.

Now if one should say would I feel that way if I were the father, then my answer would be yes, sure I would be disappointed, but I am not carrying the potential, it is not my body or my mind that has to consider this, for I still maintain childbirth or not is the right of the mother and no one else.

Two items from the New Testament will often be thought of as very significant by people who want to rationalize such conduct. One is Jesus telling followers to sell their clothes to buy swords, the other is his attack on the moneychangers in the temple.

Why depict such an unrealistic image; an abortion doctor being compared to a 'crazy mad man with a shot gun stalking innocent children'?

It's your cause that will be getting more desperate by the day if this is the only approach you have to offer. Me abortion doesn't affect one way or the other so I'm far from desperate about it.

What 8 million?

My apologies TG. I totally disremembered the figure [8|]

Current estimates are approaching FIFTY million.

There are many approaches, of course.
One of the few charities I regularly support is a local home for "crisis pregnancies".
One of the main reasons abortion has dropped to 70s levels is technology. Specifically, ultrasounds. There are, or at least have been, efforts at the state level to require ultrasounds and/or waiting periods before abortions. I support those and other educational attempts aimed at making sure women can give truly "informed consent".

And, of course, I support legislative and judicial efforts to restrict abortion.

There are many main reasons. Education being an important one. The morning after pill being another. Earlier detection still another. The criminalization of husband rape still another. There are many reasons why abortions are declining.

Or: Fifty million

Sorry about that.

tazzygirl -> RE: Some one want to explain which part of the Bible promotes this? (10/23/2010 9:08:37 AM)

Amazingly, your source does not indicate how many were the "D&C" kinds. Nor does it take into effect how many were performed for medically necessary reasons, such as maternal health or fetal demise.

truckinslave -> RE: Some one want to explain which part of the Bible promotes this? (10/23/2010 9:18:33 AM)

Simply totals, tazzy. Please feel free to post the results of your own research.

murdered babies.

Would you please lay out the basis for your position that abortion is murder?

K.

You presented the total as being 50 million for the total of abortions. Even the hard core accept abortions in relationship to the mothers life or fetal demise. That is on you. If you cannot find that number, then your numbers are flawed, therefore not accurate.

truckinslave -> RE: Some one want to explain which part of the Bible promotes this? (10/23/2010 10:18:54 AM)

Do you want me to start with my religious belief that life begins at conception?
Or with the actual text of the mother of all abortions, Roe, which stated that while the court did not affirm a vested interest in a first-trimester fetus, it had an increasing interest through the second trimester, and a stronger interest in preserving the life of a third-trimester fetus?
Or with the fact that my whole adult life I have seen myself as a defender of the weak (soldier, cop, bounty hunter etc etc), and that I consider this a calling as strongly as others might consider law or the priesthood?
Or with my youngest child, herself born in her second trimester at a birth weight of 1# 9oz?? The one for whom I forged medical releases to allow me to continue giving blood longafter my doctor refused? The one I quit work to care for when she came home at just under four and a half pounds?

Religious, legal, personal.... abortion is pretty emotional to me Kirata. I make no pretense of reasonableness.

How many abortions are performed during the second trimester?

ETA

and while your looking up that number, how far along was your youngest in gestational age?
