Neither of us are especially fond of 3rd person-speak, but I think it helps pita with her headspace during punishment or, sometimes, discipline. It seems to help establish a "tone."

These activities -- sometimes in scene, sometimes not -- are conducted in private.

When it no longer "works," we'll abandon it as easily as we began.

Master requires it during all communication except work and family

Now, this approach I can see. Several people in this thread have mentioned using it only in private, or in a punishment/discipline context, or during specific scenes. That makes sense to me.

As to the OP's original question: I have yet to actually hear it at my local munch, but that may be because it's expected that people are discreet, since it's a public venue.

I applaud your dedication to observe the customs and commands of your owners...

I personally do not insist upon the use of third person speech in my household, but when cubby joined me it was from a Gorean household and I found that when he used third person, he was reminded of his station in a beautiful and non-demeaning way.

I'm often amused when people take issue with concepts like this one... If it cost you nothing but time and personal attention to obey your owner's command, and it dosen't impact your heath and well-being, why should anyone take issue with it????

stormi uses 3rd party speach because it pleases Master. That is after all what is
important is it not? That stormi's Master is pleased by her actions? All of His girls
MUST use 3rd party speech in Master's Camp. Those with Master will get more
attention and quicker response when using it in RT. Master has to stormi's knowledge
never said " slaves must at all times use 3rd party speech". The online camp girls use
it when ever in camp or addressing emails and such to Master or other Masters of the
Gorean ways.

stormi does not know the requirement of others that Master owns, as that is HIS business not stormi's.

With my cubby, it was used universally. I had to train him NOT to use third person.

Ma'am,

You would be surprised at the number who do take issue.
For sometime now stormi stayed away from speaking on
this very site because of the rudeness of a few and her 3rd
party speech. Had folks raising all kinds of ..... over it.

It is only recently, that stormi has started reading and enjoying
the boards again. Partly because there are many changes in the
making in the near future and stormi thought that outside connection
to the bdsm- M/s- D/s community might help her in dealing with those
changes without too much commotion

stormi wishes You and Yours well.

this girls concern is if it is what Master and Mistress wish for this girl to learn, then she will learn.

First, second, third, fourth or fifth person....this sentence answers it all.

So, would that be a yes, you use it when the puter is off?

Not to be obtuse, but I'm aware that the communication/interaction between some people is limited to e-mail, IM's and other means of online communication, so I'm asking specifically if anyone uses it off-line.  Since you didn't actually state whether you're online or have face-to-face interactions, I'm left a little in the dark. I'll assume you meant "in all communication" to include face-to-face interaction. I do appreciate your taking the time to answer previously, and apologize for any mistake on my part.

Maybe it might be better for me to simply ask, does anyone use "3rd person speak" in the off-line, face-to-face interactions of daily life of BDSM, or in an off-line public setting?

And again, I'm not looking for the "I like it/I don't like it" answers, or an individual's reasons for using it.

It doesn't matter how you ask THIS question... you're going to get responses from all on it.....

i use it in real life, with Master, if i am begging or in a lot of trouble... and usually it is "Your girl" or "Your slave" rather than "this girl".

Thank you, everyone, for replying.  However, only Merc really answered the questions.

I understand the reasons it's used, so I'm not really looking for the 'why' answers. To be frank, I don't really care what a persons reasons are for using it, or not using it.

I'll try to clarify the questions:

For those who use it (or who are told to use it), does it extend to off-line interaction, as well, or does it fall by the wayside when the puter is turned off?

To go one step further, if it is used off-line, is it limited to scening, or is it used in everyday conversation?

And, how many, if any, have, or do use it in a public setting?

I have used it in daily communication with my Master and I have used it only when having to explain to Master actions I've taken and why, etc.  I have not used it publically.

I found it most helpful used as objectification when explaining myself.  The military uses it in much the same manner..."This soldier..."

It didn't hinder my communication skills; one must stop and think carefully of one's words when using "slavespeak".

However, I don't find it useful or necessary in day to day communications and it does press that annoyance button for me.  It really ruffles my feathers when a man refers to himself as, "This Master" or to me as "Does girl..?", etc.

To each his own, but that's one train that has left the station on a one-way trip for me.

Third person speech appears to be another example of life imitating art.

I have been living this life for 30 years now. The last 26 of them 24/7. My first passed on after being mine for 14 years, but while alive he always used third person as it was what I said should be done. My male now, who has been with me for 10 years, does the same as it is what I said should be done. When I find the girl I am looking for she shall do the same. I do not imitate art...I live life...and those who are mine do the same. It keeps them in the state of mind that I want them in.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond.  I very much appreciate the time and insights given.

And truesub4u--I have a feeling you are dead on about that.

Yes valeca, except for when he is working my slave uses third person all of the time.

stormi,

I totally understand. Negative comments almost always outweigh the positive ones. I might have a perfectly fine day running errands, dealing with people, etc... but one rude cashier can spoil it. It's not fair, but it is how human interaction works.

I refer to myself in the Third person as "Dribbler" quite often,
online nearly 100% of the time
Offline, with my Kitten.... 70-80%
without my Kitten, 10-20% of the time. both in and out of public.
The only reason I don't use it to much, is as Dribbler is not my Given name, it would confuse people when I start refering to myself as such.

Ma'am,

Please allow stormi to say Thank You.

It's all online but sometimes people forget that those barbs
they are sticking in or throwing around do at times add up
and leave impressions ever so brief.

stormi has made her share of mistakes coming from 7 yrs
of Old Guard leather to being a Gorean 24/7 slave. That
You can bank on...LOL. But if small things make stormi's
Master smile, who is she to deny that pleasure?

stormi wishes You a wonderful day!

stormi completely understands this. stormi attended a course last year
where they would not allow two students with the same name sooooo
stormi picked up her Master's name for her "stormi". It actually made it
so easy to stay in stormi's place at all times since the trade she was learning
was a "service" trade as well. stormi's family still has a problem with calling
her that and continue to call her by her given name but then they have a
issue with the whole poly two women in one house with one male and their
daughter/sister being devoted to Him.

this girl does not care about the negative, she sees the nose of most wrinkle when they hear the word Gorean as is*chuckles*.
those few that understand why this girl does as she does, and even support the endevour , she thanks you and wishes you all a wonderful day.
no matter what it is all about Master and Mistress and for those that can't understand that concept.......wishing them a good day too.this one is sure there are some that have  rules she would think are odd.
seems by this thread there quite a few that use third all the time or had to when first under a Masters care.
part of life. prejudices abound for just about everything from speech to race to religion so why not in kink...hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm?????????
just this girls humble 02.

Personally, third person speech does not bother me at all, I am used to it pretty much. I have several friends who are Gorean slaves, and even in a public setting, they still use the third person to refer to themselves.
If it makes them happy, who am I to say that they should not do it
