Let's take America back!

Return it to to the people!

Support the teabaggers!

Ooops.

It seems we have some outside interests involved and spending money for the "grassroots movement".

So let me ask, is this not the very thing the teabaggers claim to be against?

RealClearPolitics - Politics

Oct 27, 2010 ... Big money: Outside groups spending for Republicans

A year ago, two top Republican strategists sat down for lunch at the venerable Mayflower Hotel, five blocks from the White House, calculating how to exploit the voter anger they had seen erupt at Democratic town hall meetings that summer.

Today, the money-raising success of the GOP-allied attack led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Karl Rove-inspired American Crossroads has stunned opponents and even its own architects. It's one big slice of the estimated $3.5 billion expected to be spent on this year's campaigning, a record for a midterm election.

Financed to a great degree by undisclosed donors — and helped by a new Supreme Court ruling — the deep-pocketed groups have become a dominant part of this election's narrative. They have reversed past pre-eminence by Democratic outside groups. And they have become a prototype for elections to come.

Their effort has been a major factor in the $264 million in spending so far in this election by outside groups — organizations separate from the political parties and candidates.

Rove, who was President George W. Bush's top political adviser, and the two Mayflower lunch partners — former GOP Chairman Ed Gillespie and Steven Law, a veteran of Capitol Hill and the Chamber of Commerce — worried that the Republican Party alone would be no match for President Barack Obama's superb fundraising.

"Clearly there was a tremendous amount of grass-roots energy building — a grass-roots prairie fire that was building in intensity," Law, now the Crossroads president, said in an interview. "We felt that one of the things we could do was pour gasoline on that."

Funny how they needed unlimited corporate donations to match/exceed the Democrats in fundraising. Sort of makes you wonder why they couldn't outraise the Democrats simply from the grassroots they claim to represent?

Like I read today...take the country back where ? We'd probably get 1000 different answers from 1000 different TV partiers.

Oh and BTW, we have had in the US, a plutocracy (govt. of money, by money...for money) for about 50-60 years...ever since the profiteering lobbyists started to come to Washington...en masse.

Funny how Obama refused to disclose the source of much of his donations.

Its the law, dont like it, change it or STFU.

?
Strange how easy it was to find all of Obama's financial disclosures from the 2008 campaign if he had refused to disclose the sources.

You dont really believe that you can discern the source of all contributions from those links do you?

"Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has raised about $3.3 million from contributors who did not list a home state or who designated their state with an abbreviation that did not match one of the 50 states or U.S. territories, according to records provided by the Federal Election Commission…

The $3.3 million total does not include donors who have given less than $200 and whose contributions do not have to be itemized. Some of that money could also have come from overseas. About half of Obama's $455 million in contributions so far are unitemized. The campaign does not identify those donors."

You better check the FEC data. What isn't itemized in disclosures during the campaign is itemized afterwards. You can download the state by state zips of all of his contriibutions and it definitely includes donations under $200.

It seems we have some outside interests involved and spending money for the "grassroots movement".

Perhaps you should study history and politics a little more, and figure out what a "grassroots" movement is, and where they can lead.

Quotes from your post that may assist you:

how to exploit the voter anger they had seen erupt

there was a tremendous amount of grass-roots energy building

a grass-roots prairie fire that was building in intensity

we could do was pour gasoline on that

So as far as you are concerned the fact that this "grass roots anger" was co-opted by professional political types and their designated check writers is okie dokie....as far as your concerned, right?

You figure Soros was behind all of those "less than $200 dollar" contributions ?Do we have a few big money contributers ...yep,I guess so.
Are they allowed to subject our candidates to ideological purity tests? ....no.
Are such tests part and parcel of todays Republican Party...and specifically the tea bag movement...?
The answer is an unequivicle and resounding YES.

Back to the Op's thread. There is no such thing as an outside interest. Everyone who donates money to a particular party wants something in return.

Somewhere, in the last day or three, I saw a report that the largest single donor organization in this election was AFSCME. I'll have to see if I can hunt that up.

It might if I had any idea what the hell you are talking about.

The article said nothing about government spending.

And is it not a teabagger theme that corporate influence should not be in our political structure?

That might be it, Tazzy, or sourced off the same number. No googling yet. I was watching the President on his Daily Show appearance. "Yes we can, but..." Pity for Stewart. He gets named the most influential person of 2010, then just blows it all pitching softballs, and fawning.

I saw the Stewart show as well and thought it was tasteful and informative. Guess it depends on what side your watching it from.

That's the one, Tazzy. Thanks!

I thought the Pres. was in good form, and he certainly went with the campaign word of the week - "frustrated."
