Status: offline 		Once again,California has a chance to show it's ahead of the nation.This time,they are being asked whether or not to legalize,regulate and tax Marijuana.Now,I am living on the other side of America.Still,I know how important this vote will mean to the rest of the country.It's about time America legalize this.This topic is as old and stale as when it first became illegal.There's no reason to continue this wasted worthless war on pot.The time has come and let's hope California vote's yes on this.

Yeah, California is "ahead" of the country but not in good things.
And I agree with you that we should legalize marijuana. I think they made it illegal in 1937 because some bum in Washington under FDR said it made "coloreds" violent or some such nonsense.
The Democrats have a ~long~ history with the KKK.

Have enough studies been done in the substance to know its safe? Ive been told over and over oh pot its safe. Do they know its safe, where are the studies on its long term use?

If these studies have not been done why on earth would it be a smart thing to legalize a potentially dangerous substance?

Status: offline 		Actually A good friend of mine was killed in a car crash because the driver was high on pot... and got distracted, ran the car into a tree.

So Yes car crashes involving pot that are fatal do happen.

Ive been in 2 crashes that involved the drivers (with out my knowledge) being high.

As for being fucked in your next drug test, Legal or not you can still be fired for it depending on the companies policies. Its your own stupidity that got you into that situation and you should suffer the consequences of that stupidity.

You're starting from the base assumption that it should be illegal.

Do you also wonder why it's smart to legalize alcohol, cigarettes, and fast food? The point isn't that "pot is 100% safe" the point is that adults should be able to choose to take the risk.

Anyone who kills people driving while stoned should face the exact same severe punishmment a person who kills while driving drunk should.

The studies are readily available if you do the research.

But your argument is why would we legalize a dangerous substance.

Do tobacco and alcohol bring anything to mind?

SR, you're assuming:

1. That the prohibition is effective, that more people would use it regularly if it was legal.
2. That the government has a right to prohibit use of a substance if it is harmful to someone, in any degree.

My take is that there are longterm effects of mj, but that the government has no right to outlaw it.  If the government was allowed to dictate what was best for everyone, we'd have no fast food, no refined sugars or grains, everyone would go to college, and NASCAR and country music would be outlawed.

Status: offline 		I think they should legalize it.   Then the job of the DEA would be easier in identification of dealers and users for prosecution under federal law.  Or is the California Republic saying they are better than the rest of the world and don't have to follow federal law - only Arizona does?

Marijuana, FDR, Democrats, "coloreds", and the KKK all tied together in one neat little package.

Except that it began to be regulated and prohibited long before 1937 and had nothing to do with your racial stereotyping.

The last time California had the opportunity to show everyone how forward thinking they are they outlawed gay marriage.

I think the issue here is why one substance is banned while others are not.

Alcohol kills far more people on a daily basis but is considered socially acceptable.

People should not be operating machinery while impaired, but to say that is why we should keep marijuana illegal is a contradiction unless you want to re-institute Prohibition.

No, it won't be meaningless.

I know this has been the Justice Department's position for many years but if one state passes full legalization other states will follow.

I did not post that to support keeping marijauna illegal.
I only posted it to counter that one particular statement.
The issue in that case, indeed was operating while impaired.

I believe in the legalization of pot.

Which is a great reason to legalize it.

You add tax revenue and decrease the tax expense of locking people up for selling it.
