Yes I have, and my ability to drive safely was impaired.

This is why it's illegal to drive on a cell phone.

Driving isn't illegal. Talking on a phone isn't illegal. The problem comes when you combine the two.

quote:

I do believe it will go up, you seem to think that drug testing doesnt hinder ones choice in what they do? What about providing for themselves and their family? Many who do not have jobs will not chance smoking if they have to go for a drug test to get employed, many companys have a random drug test policy where they can instantly fire someone for being on drugs.

I do believe this hinders or at least causes pause with many people who would likely do drugs but have such a policy in effects.

The fact that alcohol is legal to use doesn't stop employers from firing people who show up to work drunk.

Seriously...why do you care? Why do you care whether a stranger chooses to smoke pot or not? If he's doing it in his own home, not driving, just smoking pot watching a movie and going to sleep...what is your interest in stopping him?

quote:

From my knowledge tobacco does not kill brain cells, it does not impair ones ability to drive. However I know first hand pot does have that affect. There have been deaths related to smoking pot.

I'm pretty confident more people have died from tobacco-related illnesses (cancer, emphysema, circulatory problems) than have died in marijuana-related accidents.

quote:

I guarantee, that the number of accidents and fatalities involving smoking pot will increase if the drug becomes legal.

I guarantee the number of accidents and fatalities involving motor vehicles will increase if driving a car is legal.

I don't understand, you seem so confident that a law against marijuana will stop people from smoking it but you don't seem to apply the same logic to a law against DWI.

Legalize it?

Have enough studies been done in the substance to know its safe? Ive been told over and over oh pot its safe. Do they know its safe, where are the studies on its long term use?

If these studies have not been done why on earth would it be a smart thing to legalize a potentially dangerous substance?

It isnt safe. The only argument is that its "safer than alcohol".
A piss poor reaon.

And I'm all for education procedure along with the legalization of them. Psychedelics aren't party drugs or things that people can or should do on Friday night to have a good time. They're tools... the keys to unlocking the doors of perception.

The only doors they unlock are those of self delusion

I see an ENORMOUS number of kids that are addicted to pot.  There are a lot of articles that say pot is a gateway drug and I don't really care whether it is or it isn't.  In addition to representing kids caught with "under 50 grams", which is a misdemeanor, or kids caught with enough to where they are presumed to be distributing, the fact is that many of these people can't make it through the day without smoking pot.  Decriminalizing is one thing....maybe that could be tried.  I am opposed to its legalization.

Spoken by someone who has never indulged or lacks the introspective nature to use it. Psychedelics don't give you answers, but they allow you to see from another perspective. If only for a few hours you can observe yourself, your past, and your life from a seemingly objective viewpoint.

For someone who cares about self-improvement or is interested in understanding why they are the way they are who also has the mental wherewithal to not be overcome by it... psychedelics are an invaluable tool.

It's delusion for some but self-discovery for a myriad of others.

The argument is that if we are not children, we should not be prevented from taking educated risks.

If they were actually educated risks youd have a point. This thread is proof of the paucity of understanding of the risks.

Who benefits from keeping it illegal? Let's see...

The pharmaceutical industry
The law enforcement/lawyer/prison/probation complex
The drug rehab industry
The petrochemical industry
The lumber industry
Gangs and better dressed organized crime
The alcohol industry

Is that enough to get rolling with?

Except you skipped "Society as a whole".

Alcohol costs society 7x the revenue it raises in taxes. MJ would be worse. (But I did vote for Prop 19. A little social darwinism might be healthy for a while)

~FR

Im surprised to see so many men want it legalized considering pot was linked to an aggressive form of testicular cancer a couple of years ago.

I don't think anyone on this thread thinks that marijuana is harmless.

I don't have to be able to write a dissertation about morbid obesity and heart failure to know I shouldn't eat too many cheeseburgers.

Its not that they think its harmless, its that they are ignorant of the extent of the risks.

And do tell me, Wilbur, how you figure a whole set of laws held in utter contempt and disregard serves the interests of society as a whole?

Funny thing about our war on drugs. 25 years ago, a gram of coke cost $100, today it is $50. We need a whole new approach to currently illegal drugs. What we have is an incredibly expensive failure.

You really have no idea how prevalent casual and recreational drug use is, do you Wilbur?
