I just had this skins and shirts conversation and it didn't go well.

But I'm still accepting donations of shirts for the shirtless of CollarMe.

The lost distinction is that while Sitting Bull who was an American Indian and whose ancestors were 'American' before this land was called America, is that everybody...everybody else born since in America is merely...a Native American.

tazzygirl -> RE: You have to love FOX, they are "fair and balanced" (11/19/2010 11:40:50 AM)

That isnt a lost distinction, as much as you may wish it to be. Its really a shame we have to have these distinctions... Native American, African American, Japanese American, ect ect ect.

If you dont like the phrase.. Native American... then again, look to your government as they coined the phrase and the Natives accepted that term.

Didn't Sitting Bull orchestrate the demise of the 7th Calvary, and the death of Custer?

The truth is that Sitting Bull did in fact orchastrate the death of a U.S. General (Custer)

Your point? Isn't killing the enemy one of the primary activities of warfare?  Also, I'm not sure having a premonition (that the Native Americans would prevail in the battle) constitutes "orchestrating."

yeah Ill put him down as more American than any immigrant or their progeny
The book isnt entitled  American Citizen Heroes
just American Heroes...
and he isnt anything else but american.
LOL semantics, always with the "catchy outie" semantics
I think Obama is allowed his opinion still isnt he?
Im sure Custers family are furious

So ... the birth of an ancestor at any physical location makes all the descendants of such an individual part of the current society and government?
how did you get there from what I said????
we are talking about SB only, he is nothing else but american born,

I've got ancestors from Wales, England, Virginia, Germany, Poland, France and several other current nations.  And more, I'm sure.
what does that have to do with the price of cheese? you were born in america, full stop, so was SB

Why do I not get to vote in those nations or states?
can you get any more ridiculous
oh wait, I know you can, but honestly... waste of energy and time

From the Amazon product description:

In this tender, beautiful letter to his daughters, President Barack Obama has written a moving tribute to thirteen groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have shaped our nation. From the artistry of Georgia O'Keeffe, to the courage of Jackie Robinson, to the patriotism of George Washington, President Obama sees the traits of these heroes within his own children, and within all of America's children.

Breathtaking, evocative illustrations by award-winning artist Loren Long at once capture the personalities and achievements of these great Americans and the innocence and promise of childhood.

This beautiful book celebrates the characteristics that unite all Americans, from our nation's founders to generations to come. It is about the potential within each of us to pursue our dreams and forge our own paths. It is a treasure to cherish with your family forever.

Seems to be about "Americans" as in American citizens, as it specifically talks about "our nation".

I got native american.

I got over 150 years of treaties the so called american government broke repeatedly.

I got a long line of Sitting Bull decendants being born on this soil... long before the europeans even knew about this continent.

I got promises made, promises broken, and a nation of native americans lied too repeatedly by this so called government simply for the purpose of gold. Lets not forget why BigHorn was fought.

I got Sitting Bull fought against the same tyranny that the US government declared against the British.

Did I say otherwise, anywhere?

You want to view him as a non-american?

Use of caps is important in this discussion.

I view him as not an American citizen (part of the political organization established on the North American continent).  I do view him as an american native (as in born on the same continent).

Why is that so damn hard to understand?

I think if he were alive today. he would thank you.

So, why is he in a book devoted to "groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have shaped our nation", if he not only didn't accept nor desire citizenship, did not like "American the country" and wanted no part of it?

I, and many like me, view him as a true american hero in all the sense of the word.

I think I said already, that from one point of view, his actions could be seen as "heroic".

No problem. Lucy.  To you as well.

I'm redoing my main PC this weekend, so I might not be around the forums much for a few days.

Enjoy the peace and quiet.  [:)][8D]

That's not the only thing that is horrendous on 7.

I had XP pro and compared to that 7 sucks.

But Microsoft is essentially a monopoly so they can afford to shoot themselves in the foot by producing bad products.

Lucylastic -> RE: You have to love FOX, they are "fair and balanced" (11/19/2010 3:43:22 PM)

I enjoy a couple of things in 7, mostly pretty pretty but the bloat is bloody awful
considering how fast my old computer was running xp and my new faster, double the memory and speed is slower than treacle under 7
blechhhhhhhhhh
Ive stripped what I can, and it is better but still its making me pissy

Because it is part of the "America is evil" thing.

Sitting Bull was citizen of the Lakota Nation (note the term Nation) specifically a Lakota Sioux.

I am not sure where Tazzy lives, but around here and where I grew up, people identify with tribe.  For example I would not tell someone that, "I am Native American."  I would tell them, "I am Wampanoag."

Calling someone a Native American is kind of like calling President Obama an Afro-Eurasian Migrant.

Actually, it doesnt matter. Sitting Bull was an american indian. He was courageous and stood up for what he was promised by a government who changed their minds like the changed their clothes.

I find him someone to admire.
