Don't know that one ... must have been a US-only machine?

This is rather timely ...

I once heard him give a lecture, maybe ... ooooooh maybe 30 years ago? Scary-smart mind.

RIP old sport.

Oh christ, could you *please* learn to read English?

If you promise to learn how to write it.

You've already made yourself look highly ill-informed, and not a little dense, during this thread. Getting snippy about it only makes matters worse.

Just stick to stuff you know about, eh?

<thinks>

Obviously, that's going to reduce your output to a bare minimum, but it's a price I'm willing to pay.

Are you aware that you come across as an arrogant asshole? You might want to work on that. I'm not snippy at being challenged. I'm getting snippy at your arrogant know-it-all attitude.

Why IE is not as good as Firefox.

According to a recent survey, only 20% of machines run windows 7. About 13% run Vista. 60 % run XP. The rest run non-windows alternatives. Why is this important? Because protected mode is only available to Vista and 7. This means 60% of machines running IE do not have access to this particular security measure. Without protected mode, IE is quite poor in comparison with the competition. And it is quite poor on 60% of machines.

According to another survey, IE is much more likely than Firefox to be run with the most recent security updates missing. Why? Because IE updates with Windows Updates, and some users like to avoid it. Only 5% of Firefox users are running a not fully patched browser compared with twice that for IE. This leaves IE users more open to attack. It is possible to blame the users, but to my mind, a browser that doesn't offer to fix itself properly (as Firefox does) is a problem.

Vulnerabilities are found in every browser all the time. Firefox vulnerabilities tend to be patched in a couple of weeks. IE vulnerabilities are patched in a couple of months, maybe. IE8 was released with a known vulnerability unpatched. Way to go, Microsoft! Your previous suggestion that the number of vulnerabilities found is important, is laughable. It's a good thing that vulnerabilities are found. Even better if they get fixed promptly.

As the most common browser, IE is the most likely target for hackers and ne'erdowells. Security in obscurity is worth remembering.

All this means that IE is not as secure as Firefox.

Not know-it-all. Just know-a-shedload-more-than-you. Although that's not a big ask. You’ve managed to get almost every single statement in that post wrong. You’re literally clueless.

But I haven't got the time or inclination to continually keep correcting your asinine statements and erroneous assertions, so it's the iggy bin for you.

Bye [:D]
